- WHAT…Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of one to two inches, with localized higher amounts around 3 inches.
- WHERE…The southern and western Piedmont and western Sandhills of central NC.
- WHEN…From 6 PM this evening to 6 AM EST Saturday.
- IMPACTS…Hazardous travel conditions will result from slippery or snow-covered roads. Snow may also become briefly heavy and reduce visibility to around a quarter mile this evening.
Scattered power outages can be expected. - ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The precipitation may begin as a brief period of rain this afternoon into early evening, before quickly changing to snow. Winds will gust as high as 35 mph tonight.

UPDATE – Jan 28 2022 5:15 PM | The latest briefing from NWS office is Raleigh now shows that Randolph County will likely see 1-2″ of snow over the next 24 hours. The briefing also added in extreme cold as a danger for this storm with wind chill values dropping into the teens and single digits tonight and tomorrow night. The precipitation may begin as a brief period of rain this this evening, before quickly
changing to snow sometime between 7-9pm. Highs will not go back above freezing until Monday when sunshine and warmer temperatures will start to melt the snow. Hazardous travel conditions will result from slippery or snow-covered roads. Snow may also become briefly heavy and reduce visibility to around a quarter mile this evening. High winds when combined with snow and or ice may cause some power outages overnight and into tomorrow. Officials are asking everyone to stay home tonight and tomorrow if possible and if you have to go out to dress warmly and have an emergency kit in the car.

Tonight – Rain and snow, becoming all snow after midnight. Low around 25. Wind chill values as low as 16. North wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 12 to 17 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Saturday – A chance of snow before 7am. Mostly cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 32. Wind chill values as low as 13. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Saturday Night – Clear, with a low around 14. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light west after midnight.
Sunday-Mostly sunny, with a high near 42. Wind chill values as low as 10. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
