Vehicle Thefts and Property Crimes Trending Up

ASHEBORO N.C. - Last month the Randolph County Sheriff's Office investigated eight vehicle thefts, which makes up almost half of the vehicle thefts reported in 2023 and data is already showing a spike in theft related calls this month. The crime dashboard maintained on the Sheriff's Office website shows that so far this year 18 motor vehicle thefts have been or are being investigated, eight of those occurred in March. To avoid being the victim of a vehicle theft the Sheriff's Office recommends the following advice: Lock your doors every time you leave your vehicle and take your keys. Asheboro Man Arrested for Sex Crime

ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man is in jail after being charged with rape by the Sheriff's Office. On December 14, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual crime. In a press release the Sheriff's Office says, "following a lengthy investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Christopher James Hazelwood of Asheboro, for felony 2nd degree forcible rape." The Sheriff's Offices' Criminal Apprehension Team located Hazelwood, on March 29th, 2023, during the execution of a search warrant. Hazelwood was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Jail, where he was served the warrant. The magistrate issued a $150,000 secured bond. Seagrove Search Warrant Finds Drugs, Money, Guns, One Arrested

ASHEBORO N.C. - A search warrant at a home in Seagrove last month located drugs, cash and two guns and led to the arrest of one person who is now facing felony trafficking charges. On March 29, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Division concluded an investigation related to the distribution of narcotics in Randolph County. Detectives, along with the Criminal Interdiction Team and the Seagrove Police Department, executed a search warrant at a residence located on Auman St. in Seagrove, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office. Man Fired Gun in Argument, Arrested and Charged

ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man is facing criminal charges after the Sheriff's Office says he fired a gun out his car window following an argument. On March 19, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Branson Mill Rd., Randleman, in reference to an armed person. When deputies arrived, the victim told them that Abijah John Lewis II, had driven to his home and an argument ensued in the driveway, according to a press release. Police say as Lewis was backing out of the driveway, he fired a weapon out the driver’s side window. Sheriff’s Office Arrests Three Individuals Caught Stealing at Construction Site

ASHEBORO NC - The Sheriff's Office arrested and charged three people for allegedly stealing items from a construction site in Trinity this week. On March 28, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of School Road and Trinity Road, in Trinity after receiving a call about a possible larceny/theft. When deputies arrived, they located a vehicle with three occupants at the construction site. The occupants were identified as Ronnie Dale Tate, Jr., Scott Russell Leonard, and Morgan Lindsey Davidson. Local Man Wanted for B&E and Larceny Located and Arrested

ASHEBORO NC - A local man with several warrants for breaking and entering and larceny was located and arrested by police last weekend. On March 25th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Russell Walker Ave, in Randleman, after hearing a wanted suspect they were attempting to locate was in the area. When deputies arrived, they say they observed Ethan Wayne Stanley fleeing on foot. He was located hiding under an outbuilding and arrested. Surveyor Working in North Asheboro Robbed at Gunpoint

ASHEBORO N.C. - A surveyor working in North Asheboro earlier this week was robbed at gunpoint according to police. According to a report by the Asheboro Police Department on March 20th, 2023, at 11:57pm, officers responded to Ravenwood Dr located in the Franklin Village Mobile Home Park off North Fayetteville St in North Asheboro after receiving a report of a robbery. Officers spoke with the victim who stated he was working as a surveyor in the area for USIC, an underground utility company. ASHEBORO NC - A local man is in jail awaiting a court date after being arrested last week following a search warrant at a home in Asheboro. On March 22nd, 2023, the Asheboro Police Departments VICE/ Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at a home in Asheboro. During that search police say they located approximately 17.2 grams of crack cocaine, Suboxone strips, assorted drug paraphernalia, and $336. 92 in US currency. Man Found Unconscious in Sophia Driveway Charged for Driving There in Stolen Car

ASHEBORO N.C. - A man found unconscious and laying in a driveway is facing charges after police say he drove there in a stolen vehicle. On January 13th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Mill Race Ct., in Sophia, after receiving a call about a possible overdose. The caller reported a male subject was unconscious in the driveway of the residence. When Deputies arrived, they say they located Robert Crumpton, unconscious and lying in the driveway. ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect who was wanted in three separate counties in connection with larceny charges was arrested on a traffic stop earlier this week. On March 20, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputy observed a vehicle that matched the description of a suspect vehicle in a recent larceny investigation and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Kennedy Rd., Trinity. Upon approaching the driver’s side, the deputy recognized the driver as the same suspect in that incident.
