SEAGROVE N.C. - Two parents have been arrested and charged with felony child abuse after an investigation into the death of a five-year-old female in Seagrove according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. On July 24, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service at Needhams Trail in Seagrove, for a welfare check. Patrol deputies located a deceased female juvenile five years of age. Detectives and investigators responded and began an investigation and collected evidence. That investigation led to the arrest of Christina Ashley Myers and Billy Gene Myers, the parents of the decedent.  Christina and Billy Myers were taken to the Randolph County Jail where the magistrate found probable cause for the charge of felony child abuse. [Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C. - An unknown situation is causing delays on I-73/74 near Asheboro as police investigate. At around 5:40 p.m. on July 22nd, 2023, emergency crews responded to I-73/74 Southbound, near the Pineview exit, for an injured person in the roadway. One person was transported from the scene with critical injuries to a local trauma center. Investigators are on the scene now and traffic delays are expected in the area. This is a developing story. SEAGROVE N.C. - A Seagrove man is facing multiple charges related to cruelty to animal following a joint investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded and Randolph County Animal Services. On June 5th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded with Randolph County Animal Services to Little Beane Store Road in Seagrove, to a reported animal cruelty incident.  The Sheriff's Office sent out Crime Scene Investigation and Criminal Investigations to collect evidence for Randolph County Animal Services. According to a press release, the investigation led to Randolph County Animal Services seizing the dogs on the property and identified Keontai Javon McKenzie as a suspect.  McKenzie was charged with felony kill animal by starvation. ASHEBORO N.C. - Two people were arrested and are now facing multiple felony drug trafficking charges after deputies located drugs on a traffic stop leading to an investigation that located more drugs and guns in a camper. On June 30th, 2023, deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on Mack Rd. in Asheboro. During a search of the vehicle the Sheriff's office says they located and seized approximately 4 ½ of Methamphetamine as well as Suboxone, Oxycodone and two firearms, according to a press release. The driver of the vehicle, identified by the Sheriff's Office as Evan Baker, was transported to the hospital for medical treatment following the traffic stop and investigators were able to obtain warrants for Baker's arrest. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office has a arrested a male and charged him with sex crimes involving a minor. According to a press release, on May 28th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sex offense involving a minor. Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Jonathan Linden Brown for three counts felony indecent liberties with a child, two counts felony statutory sex offense with child <=15, and felony statutory rape of a child under 15 years old. Photo provided by Dollar General RAMSEUR N.C. - Earlier this week a bomb threat closed the Dollar General in Ramseur early and now police are asking anyone with information to contact them. On July 10th, 2023, Ramsuer Police and first responders were dispatched to the Dollar General Store located at 6493 Jordan Rd. According to police, an unknown subject called into the store requesting to speak with the manager who they told there was a bomb in a specific area of the store. Employees evacuated the store and called 911. Multiple searches of the store were conducted by officers and nothing suspicious was located. The business closed early due to the incident. Anyone who has any information regarding this incident is asked to contact Sgt Cox or Detective Zogopoulos.

ASHEBORO N.C. - The law finally caught up with a wanted suspect, who allegedly stole internet and telephone lines then fled from police in late June, after he was arrested and is in jail facing fifty-two warrants and charges from three counties. Charles Anthony Cox was wanted in Randolph County in connection with an incident in late June of 2023, when the Sheriff’s Office responded to Zoo Parkway, in Asheboro for a suspicious vehicle in the area. In that incident, police alleged that Cox fled from deputies attempting to pull him over, before dumping his passenger, and later his vehicle, and escaping on foot. RANDLEMAN N.C. - A search warrant in Randleman located heroin, cash, and a stolen firearm and led to the arrest of one person who is now facing felony drug and gun charges. On July 7th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit, assisted by the Criminal Interdiction Team and Randleman Police Department, concluded an investigation relating to the distribution of narcotics in Randolph County. That investigation led to police obtaining a search warrant for a home on E. Naomi Street in Randleman. Detectives say in that home, they located and seized a trafficking amount of Heroin, US Currency, and a firearm which had been reported stolen. ASHEBORO N.C. - Late on Friday night deputies responding to a domestic call found themselves in a short vehicle chase that led to one person being arrested. On July 7th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Kemp Mill Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a violation of a Domestic Violence Protective Order, also known as a 50-B. According to information from the Sheriff's Office, the victim who was returning home saw what they believed to be a vehicle belonging to Robert Mitchell Jenkins on the property. The victim stated they had a 50-B Domestic Violence Protection Order in place and that Jenkins also had an outstanding warrant. The victim left and met with deputies in a nearby parking lot. Just before 9 p.m. emergency crews from Franklinville Eastside, and Westside Fire Departments along with Randolph County EMS, Ash-Rand Rescue, and Randolph County Emergency Managment were called to the Franklinville United Methodist Church located at 227 W Main St, in Franklinville for a report of a commercial fire. Arriving units did not find a fire but instead reported a possible gas explosion and structure collapse.
