ASHEBORO N.C. - A pedestrian was taken to the hospital late Saturday night after being struck by a driver off of Sunset Ave in Asheboro. According to an accident report by the Asheboro Police Department, the collision occurred on Saturday Nov 13th 2021 just after 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Sunset Ave and Dixon St. Police say the driver, Juan Carlos De of Asheboro, was making a turn off of Sunset Ave and on to Dixon Ave when he struck a 68 year old male crossing the road heading home to the apartments on Sunset Ave. Police charged the driver with failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian and for driving without a license. ASHEBORO NC - The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office announced today that they have arrested two individuals following investigations into sex crimes against minors. On October 15, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) received a tip about Kevin Lee Nunn that said he was receiving and distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material.Deputies along with agents from Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant was executed at Nunn’s home on November 5, 2021.The next day charges were sought for ten counts of Second Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. According to information released by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, on October 30th 2021, their deputies were called to a citizens assist at a home one Grantville Lane in Asheboro. A citizen had found what appeared to be a bone in the subflooring of their home while remodeling and were concerned it was human. Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Investigations responded and collected the object in question which was sent to the SBI lab in Raleigh for analysis and further investigation. Randolph County 911 received the first call about the accident at 1:19 PM on Nov 1st 2021. Callers reported a single vehicle accident on Covered Bridge Rd near Harris Rd in Trinity. They told dispatchers that a car had flipped over and was smoking. The sole occupant of the vehicle was a pregnant female who was able to safely get out. ASHEBORO NC – A man is in jail today after he led sheriff’s deputies on a high speed chase that ended in Montgomery County. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s office just after 11 PM on October 29th, 2021 they pulled over a driver just south of the Ulah Troy exit on I-73/74. Police say that as the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver sped off getting back onto I-73/74 heading south.A vehicle pursuit ensued, with speeds reading almost 100 mph according to law enforcement radio traffic. ASHEBORO NC - The Asheboro Police Department says they are investigating a death near the Motel 6 in Asheboro this morning and they don't suspect foul play. According to a press release by the department on Thursday, October 28th, 2021, just after 7 AM, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to 901 Albemarle Road for a call about a male on the ground, unconscious and not breathing. Fire and EMS personnel were unable to resuscitate the victim and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. According to the Sheriff's Office, on October 25th, 2021,they responded to Creeks Crossing Rd. after getting a call from a citizen who had become suspicious that a utility trailer he had purchased may be stolen. The buyer told officers that Brandon Edward Fields had messaged him earlier in the day saying that he had a trailer he had acquired as pay for work that he wanted to sell. The victim told police he met Fields and another subjects and bought the trailer. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on October 14, 2021, one of their deputies and an SBI agent stopped to help a driver whose car had broken down on McDowell Road near the Sherriff's Office. The two officers helped push the vehicle into the parking lot when they say they noticed the driver was under the influence. On October 21, 2021, the NC Department of Corrections put out an alert for for an escapee, Richard Alexander Mundy, left a work detail in Laurinburg, NC.
