ASHEBORO N.C. - A convicted felon with a shotgun strapped to his motorcycle was arrested after crashing into a patrol vehicle earlier this week, according to police.  On December 5th, 2023, a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was on a call on Clifton Dr. in Archdale. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, a motorcycle traveling south on Clifton Drive with no headlights struck the deputies patrol vehicle in the rear.  The operator, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as Thurman Earl Sampson, came to rest in front of the vehicle and was evaluated by Randolph County EMS.  While inspecting the damage to the vehicles, the deputy located a shotgun strapped on the motorcycle, and discovered that Sampson, the driver, is a convicted felon.  ...

TRINITY N.C. - A driver is facing felony drug charges and misdemeanor DUI and gun charges after police say they found him and his passenger asleep at an intersection in a running vehicle. On October 20th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of NC Hwy 62 and Surrett Dr., in Trinity, for a welfare check on a vehicle stopped at an intersection with the driver slumped over at the wheel. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, when the deputy approached the vehicle they smelled the "strong odor of marijuana and alcohol emitting from the vehicle and an open bottle of alcohol was observed in the backseat of the vehicle." ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office's Highway Criminal Interdiction Team arrested a New York man last week after they say the located over $10,000 of stolen items in the vehicle. According to a press release, on October 6th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Highway Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on I-85 in Archdale. During that stop deputies were able to search the vehicle and say they located marijuana, several fraudulent identity cards, and over $10,000 in fraudulently purchased power equipment. Monday will start off nice with partly to mostly sunny skies and a high reaching near 90 degrees, but an approaching cold front is expected to arrive sometime around 3pm in the afternoon. ASHEBORO N.C. - The National Weather Service Office in Raleigh has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook with severe storms expected Tuesday afternoon and into the evening. According to forecasters, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across much of the Piedmont of North Carolina this afternoon and evening, with the highest risk over the Triad region, including all of Randolph County. Some storms may produce damaging winds over 60 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The greatestthreat will occur between 3 PM and 10 PM. ASHEBORO N.C. - An armed individual who fled from police earlier this week was arrested and is now facing multiple charges. That's according to the Randolph Couty Sheriff's Office who says on May 1st, 2023, their deputies responded to Harlow Rd, in the Archdale area, in reference to a reported armed person. Randolph County 911 advised the deputies enroute that an armed suspect had left the scene and provided a description of the vehicle. ASHEBORO N.C. - Four suspects who were found in a vacant home in Archdale were arrested last weekend and charged with breaking and entering. On April 29th, 2023, Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress on Zelma Blvd., in Archdale. According to information released by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, when deputies arrived, they located and detained four suspects who were inside the residence. When deputies contacted the property owner, they advised they were in the process of removing the home and that no one should be inside.
