Fire at Asheboro Home Leaves One Dead, Police Say

ASHEBORO N.C. - Police are investigating a fire at an Asheboro home that left one person dead. According to the Asheboro Police Department, on January 23rd, 2024, at around 3:30pm, officers were dispatched to 308 South Park Street at the request of the Asheboro Fire Department. When officers arrived, they learned the victim was sitting in a wheelchair on the front porch of a residence when a fire started in, or around, the wheelchair.  The victim was transported to a local medical facility where he died from his injuries.  Officers identified the individual as Roman Aleksander Stobnicki and say detectives from the department’s Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the case to determine the origins of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the incident...

According to a report from the department on the afternoon of December 24th, 2023, an officer was called to the Asheboro Wal-Mart. A loss prevention officer told the officers that the day prior two unidentified black males had come into the store and taken two televisions without paying. In photos released on Facebook one of the suspects can be seen in a traffic vest pushing TVs in a car through the store. ASHEBORO N.C. - Police have confirmed two people were injured and one arrested after a shooting in Asheboro earlier today.  According to the Asheboro Police Department, at approximately 12:50 p.m. Officers responded to Lowe Body and Glass, located at 201 Saunders Drive in Asheboro, for a reported shooting. Arriving officers located two victims at the scene who had suffered gunshot wounds. ASHEBORO N.C. - The U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina has charged an Asheboro man with possession of a machine gun. According to court documents, 23-year-old, Keandre Baretta Legrand, of Randolph County, was charged today with unlawful possession of a machine gun and illegal possession of a firearm by a felon stemming from an incident which occurred on September 13th, 2022.  That case is being investigated by the Asheboro Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Mary Ann Courtney. ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect led Asheboro police on a brief chase before crashing into several vehicles at a local auto repair shop and fleeing the scene earlier this week.  According to a report from the Asheboro Police Department, in the early morning hours of November 15th, 2023, at around 2:30 a.m., an officer on patrol attempted to pull over a silver in color passenger car on E Presnell St. Police say the driver failed to stop leading to a short vehicle chase.  That chase ended after the driver lost control and crashed into several vehicles at Goldston’s Auto Repair on Gold Hill Rd. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man was arrested yesterday afternoon after police say he robbed the First Bank in Asheboro. On November 14th, 2023, just before 4 p.m. officers responded to First Bank in Asheboro located at 335 S. Fayetteville St., for a report of an armed robbery.  According to a press release by the Asheboro Police Department, a white male suspect passed a note demanding money. According to police reports on Oct 6th, 2023, at around 7 p.m., an officer responded to the Randolph Mall for a report of a fraud. An employee at a business inside the mall told officers that a male had come into the business and paid with a counterfeit $100 dollar bill. While at the mall, the officer was notified by security that another business in the mall was reporting receiving a counterfeit bill from a male. According to a vehicle accident report completed by the Asheboro Police Department, on September 11th, 2023, at around 3 p.m., an officer was towing the trailer on US-220 Bus when the trailer came unattached from the vehicle, impacted the roadway, and rolled for approximately fifty feet before coming to a rest on the side of the roadway.
