A Sheriff's Deputy walks into the Africa entrance at the NC Zoo after a bomb threat triggered an evacuation. Monday morning at approximately 10:45 am, emergency crews were called to the Zoo after receiving a report of a bomb threat. An evacuation took place of all guests, including several field trip groups visiting the zoo today. Guests who spoke to reporters say they were asked to leave due to a "security incident". The cost of the classes is $225.00. Participants must meet and pass all prerequisites set by the American Red Cross. These include being a minimum age of 15, and being able to complete a 300-meter swim, the retrieval and return of a 10-pound object from an 8-foot depth, and a 2-minute tread without the use of hands. Payment is not needed until after participants have completed and passed the prerequisite skills. The training can be registered for online via the ACRS website, or in person. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man was taken to the hospital after being shot and then hit with a car on Dennis St in Asheboro yesterday. According to information released by the Asheboro Police Department, on March 21st, 2023, just before 8:30 am, officers responded to 1928 Dennis Street in reference to a gunshot/assault. When police arrived on scene they determined the victim, Jareem Xavier McBryde, had been taken to a local medical facility by his girlfriend. "Preliminary information obtained on-scene indicated the victim was shot inside 1928 Dennis Street and then exited the residence. ASHEBORO N.C. - Last month the City of Asheboro made changes to the Social District downtown. Here is what you need to know. The Zoo City Social District is a special area in historic downtown Asheboro where visitors carry and consume alcoholic beverages in outdoor public spaces during specified times, so long as the beverages are in designated containers and were purchased from participating businesses. Current participating businesses include AmVets 905, Cantina Taco Loco, Carolina Tap House, Four Saints Brewing Company, The Flying Pig Food and Spirits, Leo’s Whiskey Bar, Lumina Wine & Beer, and Positano. According to police and arrest reports obtained by Randolph News Now, on March 4th, 2023, the Departments VICE/Narcotics unit executed a search warrant at 741 S Church St. Police say they seized 15.1 grams of a white powder that field-tested positive as fentanyl, 22.4 grams of marijuana, as well as drug paraphernalia and just over $700 in cash. One person, Tierra Meyon Johnson, was arrested and charged with Trafficking Opium/Herion by Possession as well as multiple other felony charges. ASHEBORO N.C. - Last week a manhunt triggered a massive police presence on the 64 Bypass near the Zoo Connector Rd. On March 3rd, 2023, around 5 p.m. deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office observed Steven Wayne Golden, a wanted suspect, on a bicycle on Staley's Farm Rd, near the Zoo Connector and attempted to contact him. Golden attempted to flee on the bicycle but crashed into a guardrail on the bridge before fleeing on foot into a wooded area, leading to a manhunt and a massive police presence in the area. The events will be held on Monday, March 13, from 4-7 p.m. at the Asheboro Campus in rooms 111 and 117 of the Business Education Center and on Wednesday, March 15, from 4-7 p.m. at the Archdale Center in rooms 321 and 322 of the Archdale Center.
