Incident Details Location: I-73 (I-73/74) Both Directions in Randolph County at Mile Marker 73 to 74, In Asheboro, Near Old Farmer Road Start: 11/19 @ 9:30 AM End: 11/19 @ 11:30 AM Description: A contractor for Duke Power (Lee Electric) will be upgrading existing power lines that are currently crossing I-73/74 at the overpass of Old Farmer Rd. A rolling roadblock will be used until the work is complete. Photo courtesy - Dollar General, Corporate (Newsroom) ASHEBORO N.C. - No one was injured after smoke inside an Asheboro Dollar General resulted in a commercial fire response overnight.   On the evening of November 15th, 2023, the Asheboro Fire and Rescue Department (AFRD) responded to a report of a possible commercial fire at the Dollar General, located at 1450 Zoo Parkway.  Fire crews were dispatched at 8:38 p.m., and the first unit arrived on scene at 8:42 p.m. to find light smoke in the store. The business had been evacuated before the AFRD's arrival and it was determined that the source of the smoke was a malfunctioning freezer. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man was arrested yesterday afternoon after police say he robbed the First Bank in Asheboro. On November 14th, 2023, just before 4 p.m. officers responded to First Bank in Asheboro located at 335 S. Fayetteville St., for a report of an armed robbery.  According to a press release by the Asheboro Police Department, a white male suspect passed a note demanding money. After obtaining an unknown amount of currency the suspect exited the business on foot, fleeing towards the Asheboro Summit Apartments located next door to the bank.   Witnesses reported he entered the rear of the building and entered the elevator and officers located the suspect hiding in the shower of room 503, where they also say they located clothing worn during the robbery. Ladder 1 at Asheboro Fire & Rescue Station 1 in 2020 (Archive Photo / Acme News) ASHEBORO N.C. - The City of Asheboro has authorized an offer to purchase land on Zoo Parkway for a new Fire Station and Emergency Operations Center with construction set to start as soon as next year.  At the City Council Meeting held on November 8th, 2023, council members voted unanimously to authorize $120,000 from the city’s general fund to make an offer to purchase 3.25 acres of land on Zoo Parkway at Crestview Church Rd.  That land would be used to build a new Fire Station and Emergency Operations Center which is needed to help keep up with increasing call volume and to ensure response times stay at or under five minutes now and into the future.  Those goals are especially i...

Just before 6 p.m., Randolph County 911 dispatched Westside and Asheboro Fire Departments along with Randolph County EMS to US Hwy 64 W at Mack Rd, for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in front of the Citgo. According to officials with Randolph County EMS, one patient was reported to have sustained critical injuries and was being temporarily transported to Randolph Hospital as emergency crews awaited a helicopter. ASHEBORO N.C. - Two people were arrested after an incident last month where a meetup for an online sale turned into a shootout, leaving one person injured. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on October 27th, 2023, deputies responded to Creekway Ridge, in Asheboro, for a report of a gunshot wound.  When deputies arrived, they located the victim who told investigators that a white male suspect had arrived at the residence to buy items listed for sale online.
