On August 20th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 85 north near mile marker 109, in Trinity. During that stop, officers say they located approximately forty-four pounds of cocaine in the "trunk area" of the vehicle. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sherriff's Office, on August 7th, 2023, Mason Bryce Wooten was observed in surveillance footage striking a sprinkler head in his cell, setting off the system in his cell, at the Randolph County Jail. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office has charged a local man with embezzling several thousand dollars from a local baseball club. On October 14th, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into suspected embezzlement after receiving a report from a local community baseball club. According to a press release, that investigation led to investigators charging 37-year-old Jesse Lee Martin from Denton, NC, with one count of Felony Embezzlement on August 10th, 2023. According to court records, Martin is accused of embezzling $3,600 from the Cedar Grove Baseball Club, a local little league organization. SEAGROVE N.C. - Two parents have been arrested and charged with felony child abuse after an investigation into the death of a five-year-old female in Seagrove according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. On July 24, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service at Needhams Trail in Seagrove, for a welfare check. Patrol deputies located a deceased female juvenile five years of age. Detectives and investigators responded and began an investigation and collected evidence. On June 15, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in the Seagrove area where a business had been entered and property was taken. According to the Sheriff's Office, Detectives arrived on scene and were able to locate evidence, which led them to a residence on Borough Ave, in Seagrove. With the assistance of the Seagrove Police Department, Detectives approached the residence and spoke with the occupants which led to a search. ASHEBORO N.C. - An armed individual who fled from police earlier this week was arrested and is now facing multiple charges. That's according to the Randolph Couty Sheriff's Office who says on May 1st, 2023, their deputies responded to Harlow Rd, in the Archdale area, in reference to a reported armed person. Randolph County 911 advised the deputies enroute that an armed suspect had left the scene and provided a description of the vehicle. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local woman has been charged with arson after a house fire near Asheboro this week. On April 11th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Waynick Meadow Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a residential fire. When deputies arrived fire crews on scene had already contained the fire. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, deputies had responded to two earlier calls at the same residence for arguments between persons living at the address. One resident advised that she was inside when she heard someone beating on the outside of the residence and shouting that it was on fire.
