Several Injured In Accident Involving Uwharrie Charter School Bus [UPDATED]

ASHEBORO NC - A driver and three children are at the hospital this morning after an accident involving a school bus in Davidson County. According to the NC Highway Patrol the accident occured at around 7:30 AM on Highway 109 near Mount Zion Church Road. Troopers say it appears that a driver crossed the center line and struck a school bus for Uwharrie Charter Academy head on. Seven children were on the bus at the time of the crash, and three of those were taken to the hospital, and are with family at this time. The driver of the passenger car was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Troopers have cleared the scene and Hwy 109 is back open at this time. Just before 3:30 PM Randolph County 911 was notified of a semi-truck on fire. The vehicle was in the parking lot of the Deep River Rail Trail on Hwy 64 E, just prior to the Ramseur city limits. ASHEBORO NC (ACME NEWS) - Randolph Hospital's Emergency Room was briefly placed on lockdown Sunday night after a large crowd gathered at the entrance where a victim was being treated following a shooting. According to police radio traffic, officers with the Asheboro Police Department at the Emergency Room requested backup to help with controlling a crowd of between 50-100 people growing angry and confrontational. Officers with the Randolph County Sherriff's Office, Randleman Police Department, and State Highway Patrol responded  emergency traffic. The Randolph County Sherriff's Office ERT (SWAT) team was alerted with some members also responded to the hospital. Trinity Man Dies After Being Struck On Hwy 62

ASHEBORO NC - A Trinity man was struck and killed on Hwy 62 Monday. According to the NC Highway Patrol at 10:23 AM on Monday, March 15th, 2021, Troopers responded to the report of a crash on N.C. Highway 62 near Colonial Circle in Trinity. Tyler Lee Gray, 30, of Trinity NC, had parked his 2007 Honda pickup towing a utility trailer on the westbound shoulder of Hwy 62, partially in the roadway. Gray and was outside of his vehicle. Lawrence Edward Walker, 80, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., was traveling west in a 2019 Ford SUV. When Walker attempted to pass Gray he was forced to swerve back into the westbound lane due to an oncoming eastbound vehicle and collided with Gray. Gray died at the scene. Walker was not injured, and charges are pending.

Highway Patrol At 11:01 AM on Monday, February 22, 2021, Troopers attempted to stop a 1995 Honda passenger car for speeding. The driver Mary Etta Pennell, 35, of Greensboro N.C., fled from the trooper before losing control of the vehicle and traveling off the roadway to the right, and colliding with a tree near the Flag Springs United Methodist Church on Zoo Parkway. Pennell was transported to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. A suspect inside the vehicle fled on foot.
