Forecasters Watching Subtropical Storm Nicole as Forecast Tracks Target East Coast

ASHEBORO N.C. - Forecasters with the National Weather Service are keeping a close eye on Subtropical Storm Nicole as forecast models show the storm on track to impact the south-east coast by the end of the week. Subtropical Storm Nicole is currently located 465 miles to the north and west of the east of Bahamas and is expected to reach the Florida's coast by Wednesday night. The storm is expected to strengthen into a hurricane prior to landfall which is currently projected somewhere along the east-central Florida coast either late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. ASHEBORO N.C. - There is just a little over a day left to vote ahead of the 2022 mid-terms elections scheduled to take place on November 8th, 2022. Early voting in Randolph County runs today through 7:30pm and Saturday Nov 5th from 8am to 3pm. (View Early Voting Schedule Here) There is no early voting on Sunday Nov 6th or Monday Nov 7th as North Carolina Statute requires a break on those days, between the end of early voting and the start of the election. If you were hoping to vote by mail instead, the deadline to request a ballot ended on November 1st. So far since early voting started on October 20th, 2022, over 22,000 residents of Randolph County have voted early. Thats on par with the last mid-terms in 2018 where 26,000 residents voted early. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022 from 5-7 pm at the Liberty Town Hall (239 S. Fayetteville St, Liberty, NC) and is open to the public. The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to convert three at-grade intersections (conventional/traditional intersections) on U.S. 421 and make other improvements in Randolph County near the Guilford County line. In a press release this afternoon RCPH says they have confirmed the first case of monkeypox in the county and they say that individual, who will remain un-identified due to patient privacy, is currently isolated at home. “At this time, the risk of monkeypox transmission remains low,” said Tara Aker, Randolph County health director. “Our Health Department’s Communicable Disease team is monitoring the situation closely and is working closely with North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to respond.” As of today (Aug 8th 2022), the CDC reports there are 7,510 confirmed cases in the United States, wi...

ASHEBORO N.C. - A local woman was killed while working at a convenience store in Star, NC. Now, we are hearing from current and former employees of that chain of stores who say they have been bringing up worker safety concerns for months. Laura Whitman was a graduate of Randleman High School. At 53-years-old she had worked at several local gas stations in Randolph County, but on the night of June 25th, 2022, Whitman was working at the Quik Chek in Star, NC. Around an hour before closing, and on one of her first shifts at the location, Whitman was shot to death by a robbery suspect. ASHEBORO N.C. - Those who made the trip down to Myrtle Beach for the holiday weekend are dealing with bands of rain and strong wind gusts after Tropical Storm Colin formed over South Carolina early this morning. At 11am the National Hurricane Center in Florida issued a Tropical Storm Warning for portions of the NC and SC coast. ( A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours.)
