NC Highway Patrol: Fiery Crash Claims Life of Asheboro Woman

ASHEBORO — An early-morning fiery crash in Asheboro has claimed the life of a local woman, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol. At 6:25 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, troopers with the Highway Patrol were dispatched to a vehicle crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near Mountain Top Drive. According to a press release, 24-year-old Alvaro Cabrera Gudino, of Asheboro, was driving on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in a Honda minivan when she traveled off the right side of the road, struck a mailbox, a utility pole, and a tree. After impacting the tree, Gudino’s vehicle came to rest and caught fire. Gudino suffered serious injuries and was transported to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. Local Man Arrested After Threatening Police in Social Media Video

ASHEBORO N.C. — A local man was arrested last week after threating police in a live video posted to social media led to an investigation. On March 26th, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault in progress on U.S. Hwy 64 East in Ramseur. According to a press release, deputies encountered Dominick Lynn Sloan, who threatened to harm law enforcement with a weapon as they were returning to their vehicles, while livestreaming on social media. Dominick Lynn Sloan Investigators were also able to obtain a search warrant for the property due to a protective order issued earlier in March which prevented Sloan from possessing firearms and ammunition. Teen Airlifted After Evening Crash Shutdown US 64

ASHEBORO N.C. — A local teenager was airlifted following a crash yesterday evening that shutdown US-64, according to the Highway Patrol. Just after 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28th, 2024, the State Highway Patrol was called to respond to a vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 64 near Loflin Pond Road. According to a press release from the Highway Patrol, an 18-year-old driver in a 2011 Honda SUV attempted to turn left onto U.S. Highway 64 from the Dollar General PVA and collided with a 2020 Toyota Pickup. The teen driver was severely injured and was airlifted to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Suspect arrested after fleeing from police, attempting to report car stolen

ASHEBORO N.C. — Video evidence led to the arrest of a suspect attempting to report his car stolen after fleeing from police, according to the Sheriff’s Office. On March 25th, 2024, at around 9 p.m., a Deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a vehicle near the intersection of Kamerin St. and Caudle Rd. in Randleman. According to a press release, that vehicle quickly turned into a driveway, turned off its headlights, and jumped out of the driver's door and fled on foot behind the residence. The Sheriff’s Office says there was a short foot pursuit, but the officer returned to the vehicle to check for passengers and call-in backup. According to a press release, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was called to Jades Way in Thomasville on Aug. 29, 2022, to investigate two separate residential fires at the same location — one that day and another occurring two days earlier on Aug. 27. The Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office notified the sheriff’s office that the fires were suspicious in nature. Fort Liberty Solider Arrested for Sex Crimes with Minor at Asheboro Park

ASHEBORO N.C. — A U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Liberty in North Carolina was arrested overnight at a local park in Asheboro, accused of engaging in sexual activity with a minor. Late on Wednesday March 20th, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a local park past curfew. According to a press release from the Department, officers found a male, later identified as 27-year-old Eric Timothy Fitch with a 13-year-old juvenile female in the vehicle along with evidence that Fitch had engaged in sexual activity with the female. Investigators say that a black 2017 Lexus RX 350 SUV passed a 2016 Toyota in a turning lane, resulting in a collision that sent the Toyota off the roadway to the right, striking an embankment, and a tree. Piedmont Opera and shift_ed Offering Free Tickets to Randolph County Students

ASHEBORO N.C. — The Piedmont Opera and shift_ed have partnered up to host Student Night at the Opera, providing free opera tickets to all Randolph and Guilford counties students. All students in Randolph County can receive a free general admission ticket to the final dress rehearsal of 'The Marriage of Figaro' on March 20th, 2024, at 7:30 PM at The High Point Theatre. Chaperones will need to pay $15 for their ticket. Students must call the Piedmont Opera box office at (336) 725-7101 to reserve their ticket.
