On October 9th, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to High Point St, in Randleman for a call about an armed robbery that had occurred on Interstate 73/74. When the police arrived, they located the victim who had obvious injuries. The victim told police that he was riding with a “friend” who he was allowing to drive his new vehicle. That "friend" was identified by the Sheriff's Office as "James David Marler". On September 26th, 2022, just after 1pm officers from the Asheboro Police Department’s Patrol Division were dispatched to 337 Hamlin Street Asheboro in reference to a shooting. Asheboro Fire Department (via Facebook) ASHEBORO N.C. - No one was injured in a late-night fire at the Asheboro Pizza Hut. According to a press release from the Asheboro Fire Department this morning, Fire and Rescue crews from the department's A-shift were dispatched to a commercial fire at the Pizza Hut on E Dixie Dr at around 11:30 pm. "Crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke showing. Crews conducted a search to verify the building was not occupied. Crews were also able to quickly extinguish the fire," said Samantha East, Public Information Officer with the Asheboro Fire Department. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man from Bunnlevel is facing multiple felony charges after being charged with stealing 1,000 gallons of gasoline from a local gas station. On July 9, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Handy Hugo gas station on Hwy 64 East in Asheboro in reference to a possible larceny/theft of fuel in progress. Reilly was the oldest male lion in an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)-accredited institution. "He was so tolerant of his rambunctious offspring and was fiercely devoted to his lady lion, Mekita," said Zookeeper Beth Malott, who worked with Reilly for eight years. "Reilly was a one-of-a-kind soul, and his morning roars will be greatly missed." On August 5th, 2022, at approximately 2am, patrol officers with the Asheboro Police Department were dispatched to a mobile home on Walnut Street, in reference to a gunshot wound. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly tried to set a house on fire in Franklinville. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on July 31, 2022, deputies responded with the Franklinville Fire Department to a report of a house fire on W. Main St. in Franklinville. The Sheriff's Office says their deputies received information that a Hispanic male subject in a red shirt, approached the residence with a gas can, and set the residence on fire. They were able to identify that male as Evelio Pinales, who was later located and arrested at his residence. Pinales was charged with one count of felony second degree arson. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office along with the SBI is investigating the death of an inmate earlier this month at the Randolph County Jail. On July 18th, 2022, shortly before 9:00 am, an inmate at the Randolph County Jail was found unresponsive by detention center staff conducting medical rounds. According to a press release, medical staff and officers performed CPR until EMS arrived. The inmate was transported to Randolph Health where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. The SBI has been notified of the incident and is investigating the death along with the Sheriff's Office’s Criminal Investigations Division. ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman is facing a slew of charges after police say she fled from them after they tried to pull her vehicle over to investigate a report of a female being forced out of a vehicle. In a press release this week the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says that on June 7, 2022, a deputy was in the area of Caraway Mtn. Rd, near Asheboro, conducting an investigation, when a driver approached to report seeing a female being forced out of a vehicle on Caraway Mtn. Road. Deputies located that female, who was observed exiting the vehicle earlier on Caraway Mtn. Rd., and transported her to an area hospital for evaluation.
