(REMC) – On Friday, September 29, from 9 am to noon at the North Carolina Zoo, Randolph Electric Membership Corporation will sponsor “It’s Electric,” a public education event showcasing electric vehicles (EVs). ASHEBORO N.C. - Off parole for less than three months, a 23-year-old suspect is again facing multiple felony gun, drug, and fleeing charges after leading police from two counties on a nearly hour long pursuit early Sunday morning. In the early morning hours of September 3rd, 2023, a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s was patrolling on US Hwy 220 S, near Asheboro, when they spotted a motorcycle with no license plate that shut off its lights off and made a turn on Crestview Church Rd. ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect wanted in a sex crime case in Colorado was located and arrested in Asheboro last week. On August 24th, 2023, a detective with the Boulder Police Department in Boulder, Colorado, contacted the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT) about locating Nehemias Lopez, who was wanted on a Felony Sexual Assault-Physically Helpless charge.   Boulder Police Department had been actively looking for Lopez for several months and believed that Lopez had fled from Colorado to Asheboro, NC. ASHEBORO N.C. - A Randolph County Deputy chased a vehicle on foot that was trying to flee and arrested the driver who was likely feeling a bit of déjà vu. On August 21st, 2023, while performing routine patrol in the area of Little Gate Dr., in Asheboro, a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office spotted a vehicle parked beside the railroad tracks. According to a press release the deputy stopped to investigate and located a male subject, identified as Gregory Allen Walker, who was found asleep inside the vehicle. On August 20th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 85 north near mile marker 109, in Trinity. During that stop, officers say they located approximately forty-four pounds of cocaine in the "trunk area" of the vehicle. SOPHIA N.C. - A local trucker has been charged by the North Carolina Highway Patrol, in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on NC 87 in Columbus County last week. According to a press release from the NC Highway Patrol, at 2:46 p.m. on Thursday, August 10th, 2023, Troopers responded to a crash on NC 87 near John L Riegel Road in Columbus County. Investigators say that Nicholas Reid Fellers, 28, from Sophia, N.C., was traveling south on NC 87, in a Freightliner box truck when he failed to reduce speed striking the rear of a tractor-trailer that had stopped due to road construction. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office has charged a local man with embezzling several thousand dollars from a local baseball club. On October 14th, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into suspected embezzlement after receiving a report from a local community baseball club. According to a press release, that investigation led to investigators charging 37-year-old Jesse Lee Martin from Denton, NC, with one count of Felony Embezzlement on August 10th, 2023. According to court records, Martin is accused of embezzling $3,600 from the Cedar Grove Baseball Club, a local little league organization. TRINITY N.C. - A man who fired a gun at a residence after an argument and then lead police on a high-speed pursuit was arrested over the weekend according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. On July 23, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Thayer Rd., Trinity, in reference to an armed person who had fired a gun at a residence following an altercation. While deputies were responding, the caller told 9-1-1 the suspect had left and returned. ASHEBORO N.C. - Charges are stacking up against a suspect with several active warrants who fled on foot from deputies and was located hiding in a crawlspace by a police K9. According to a press release, on July 13th, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Detective in the area of Erect Rd., Seagrove, observed a male subject acting suspicious. Upon the detective pulling into the driveway of the residence the male fled on foot. The detective was advised that the male was James Henry Bolton-McKee, who had active warrants for his arrest.
