ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman was arrested after police say she set 5 separate fires in the Asheboro area that all occurred on the same day and in the same area. Police began investigating on March 3rd after fire crews and the Fire Marshal's Office called the Randolph County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Division to the scene of a fire on Cedar Grove Drive Extension in Asheboro. Fire crews reported five separate and distinct fires with one spreading to a vacant outbuilding, a second fire ignited three vehicles and the three other fires burned wooded areas. No injuries from the incident. Police began investigating the fires as arson that day. Randolph County 911 received the first call about the fire at 11:36am on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. The caller reported a building was on fire at at 2382 Doul Mtn. Rd at the Tot Hill Farm Golf Course. Crews from Ulah, East Side and Westside Fire Departments all responded along with Randolph County EMS and Emergency Management. According to the Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office, on Sunday at 11:35AM crews from Staley, Liberty and Franklinville Fire Departments responded to a call for a residential structure fire on White Lake Dr. When firefighters arrived they found a working fire at a single story home. At the time of the fire there were 7 adults in the home. All occupants were able to exit the structure. ASHEBORO N.C. — Effective today at noon the NC Forestry Service and the Randolph County, NC – Effective at 12 p.m. Monday, December 13, the N.C. Forest Service and the Randolph County Fire Marshal have lifted the ban on all open burning for Randolph County. As of 12 p.m., burn permits are available in Randolph County. You can obtain a burn permit from any authorized permitting agent or online at www.ncforestservice.gov/burnpermit. All burn permits previously issued in Randolph County prior to the ban were cancelled. ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman has been charged in connection with a house fire back on Sunday in Asheboro. Thats according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office who in a press release said that on November 28, 2021 they responded to the scene of a house fire at the request of the Fire Marshal Investigator. That investigation, a team effort between the Fire Marshal’s Office and the Criminal Investigations Detectives, determined that Laura Nicole Gunter had intentionally set fire to the home on Staleys Farm Rd., in Asheboro. Gunter was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Jail where the magistrate found probable cause for charge of Felony Fraudulently Burning Dwelling. ASHEBORO NC – A mother and son had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital Wednesday afternoon after escaping a house fire. Randolph County 911 received a frantic call from the homeowner that her house was on fire at 2:12 PM. Staley Fire Department was dispatched to the house which was on Old Coleridge Rd, close to the Chatham County line and the first engine checked enroute in just slightly over one minute. Responding fire fighters reported seeing smoke from the fire one mile away, and reported flames coming through the roof when they arrived.
