ASHEBORO N.C. - A man with 15 outstanding warrants was arrested during a traffic stop on I-73 last week, and things only got worse from there. According to a press release from the the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on March 3rd, 2022, Detectives with the Vice & Narcotics Unit pulled over a vehicle on I-73 North at exit 79. The driver, who they identified as Joseph Adam Spaugh, wanted out of the State of Georgia with full extradition as well as fifteen warrants. Spaugh was placed under arrest. During a search of the vehicle police say they found methamphetamine and paraphernalia. ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman was arrested after police say she set 5 separate fires in the Asheboro area that all occurred on the same day and in the same area. Police began investigating on March 3rd after fire crews and the Fire Marshal's Office called the Randolph County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Division to the scene of a fire on Cedar Grove Drive Extension in Asheboro. Fire crews reported five separate and distinct fires with one spreading to a vacant outbuilding, a second fire ignited three vehicles and the three other fires burned wooded areas. No injuries from the incident. Police began investigating the fires as arson that day. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on March 4th, 2022, a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle near Howard Mill Rd and Bennett Rd. Police say the driver sped up and led police on a short vehicle chase that ended when the driver turned on to Waddell's Ferry Rd. and ended up on the dirt and gravel portion of the road near the Deep River when the vehicle became disabled. ASHEBORO N.C. - Police arrested a man after they say he traveled to Ramseur to meet a juvenile with the intent to trade money for sex. On February 24, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Team took a report of child sexual solicitation. In a press release they identified the perpetrator as Timothy James Norton of Siler City, NC. ASHEBORO N.C. - Police say they arrested two people who are now facing felony charges after their attempt to flee from a failed larceny was thwarted when their stolen vehicle got stuck in the mud. On February 18, 2022,The Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to a larceny at a business on Hwy 64 E. According to the press release from Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, police were informed that two people were attempting to steal from a business but were stopped and then proceeded to flee from the scene. On February 15, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Dollar General on South Main Street in Randleman for an armed robbery. ASHEBORO N.C. - A wanted suspect who led police on a vehicle chase near Ramseur in which they crashed into a camper before getting away was arrested by the Criminal Apprehension Team this week. On February 3, 2022, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol saw a vehicle at a gas station outside of Ramseur that they knew was driven by Randall Ray Burgess, who had outstanding Orders for Arrest. Police say when the approached the vehicle, Burgess attempted to drive away onto Lee Layne Rd. The deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over for a traffic stop but police say Burgess refused to stop and led police on a pursuit. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office announced they have recently charged three individuals with sex offenses involving minors. Juan Jose Figueroa Jimenez Juan Jose Figueroa Jimenez was charged with felony crimes against nature and three counts of felony indecent liberties with a child after the Sheriff's Office received information about sexual offenses on December 15, 2021 that led them to start an investigation. Over the weekend, former candidate for Randolph County Sheriff, Eric Hicks was caught on video, along with another individual, removing a "Seabolt for Sheriff" campaign sign in Archdale. That sign was placed on private property at N Main St. and Mitchell Rd in Archdale with the permission of the landowner. At around 2pm, Archdale police received a call about two white males damaging a sign at the location.
