According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, on November 26th, 2023, deputies responded to a reported robbery on NC Hwy 134, in Asheboro. The victim told investigators that he was asked by someone he knew to meet in the parking lot of a business and that when he arrived, he was robbed by two males and two females. The victim also reported that one of the male suspects fired a single round from a handgun at him during the robbery. ASHEBORO N.C. - This month the Randolph County Grand Jury handed down indictments for a local woman on several drug and trafficking charges. During the November 2023 session of the Randolph County Grand Jury, True Bill of Indictments were issued on Erica Lynn Locklear for the distribution of narcotics in Randolph County. According to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, these indictments were issued as a result of investigations conducted by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Unit. Erica Lynn Locklear has been indicted for multiple felony drug charges. She was served on November 18, 2023, and received a $250,000 secured bond. ASHEBORO N.C. - Two people were arrested after an incident last month where a meetup for an online sale turned into a shootout, leaving one person injured. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on October 27th, 2023, deputies responded to Creekway Ridge, in Asheboro, for a report of a gunshot wound.  When deputies arrived, they located the victim who told investigators that a white male suspect had arrived at the residence to buy items listed for sale online. SOPHIA N.C. - Today, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office announced they have filed charges against the father of a two-year-old who suffered an accidental gunshot wound to the leg after getting ahold of a firearm earlier this month. On October 13th 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accidental shooting on Beckerdite Rd. in Sophia. The victim, a two-year-old, had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was being treated by Guil-Rand Fire when the deputies arrived. RANDLEMAN N.C. - A man who was arrested on an outstanding warrant received an additional larceny charge after deputies say he stole a pair of cuffs from the patrol car he was being held in. On October 20th, 2023, a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to Camellia Ln., in Randleman, for a report of an assault. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, the responding deputy met with the caller, Jeffrey Corum, and discovered he had an outstanding warrant for felony charges. Corum was escorted to the location of the assault in the patrol vehicle and asked to stay in the car while the deputy spoke to the parties involved. TRINITY N.C. - A driver is facing felony drug charges and misdemeanor DUI and gun charges after police say they found him and his passenger asleep at an intersection in a running vehicle. On October 20th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of NC Hwy 62 and Surrett Dr., in Trinity, for a welfare check on a vehicle stopped at an intersection with the driver slumped over at the wheel. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, when the deputy approached the vehicle they smelled the "strong odor of marijuana and alcohol emitting from the vehicle and an open bottle of alcohol was observed in the backseat of the vehicle." ASHEBORO N.C. - A registered sex offender has been arrested and charged after the Sheriff's Office was notified he had been on school grounds. On October 12th, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office SRO was notified that ChristopherTimothy Ward, a registered sex offender, had been on a school campus. Ward, who currently resides in Thomasville, was convicted in 2010 for two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Minor. Under NC law certain registered sex offenders are prohibited from being in, at, or near certain places. 2-Year-Old Injured in Accidental Shooting Friday Evening

SOPHIA N.C. - A 2-year-old was injured Friday evening after getting ahold of a firearm and accidently shooting themself in the leg, says the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. On Friday October 13th, 2023, just after 6 p.m., deputies responded to a home in Sophia for an accidental gunshot wound. The Sheriff's Office says that a 2-year-old child "grabbed their father’s pistol and accidentally pulled the trigger while the whole family was in their vehicle on their farm/land." The condition of the child is unknown at this time other than that they suffered a superficial wound to their leg. The Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident and no further information is available currently.
