On May 10th, 2023, Scott, the editor for Randolph News Now spotted a Google Street View car while driving down Old Farmer Rd in Asheboro. On May 14th, 2023, PJ, Photojournalist for the North State Journal spotted the vehicle while at the intersection of N Fayetteville St and E Presnell St, also in Asheboro. Organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is the largest one-day food drive in the country. On Saturday, May 13, 2023, the public is asked to leave bags of non-perishable food by their mailboxes for local Letter Carriers to collect. You can also drop off food at your local post office. This afternoon first responders from across Randolph County recognized the arduous work of healthcare workers with a parade around Randolph Health. Head On Collision Claims the Life of Franklinville Resident [UPDATED]

FRANKLINVILLE N.C. - A head on collision on US 64 claimed the life of a Franklinville resident on Wednesday afternoon. Just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023, emergency crews responded to a vehicle crash on US 64 near Iron Mountain Road. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Wanda Cox Allred, 74, of Franklinville, N.C., was traveling west on US 64 operating a 2019 Honda CR-V when a driver of a 2006 Mercedes Benz crossed the centerline, striking her vehicle head-on. Allred died on-scene. The driver of the Mercedes Benz suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro. Fire Crews Responds to Commercial Fire in Asheboro

[Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C. - Fire crews in Asheboro are on the scene of a commercial equipment fire that is under control at this time. Just before 5:30 pm, Randolph County 911 dispatched Asheboro Fire/Rescue to 2503 N Fayetteville St, located near the intersection of Pineview St, at Covanta Enviromental Solutions. Traffic Stop by Asheboro Police Leads to Trafficking Charges

ASHEBORO N.C. - A traffic stop by the Asheboro Police Department's Special Enforcment Team (SET), lead to the arrest of an Asheboro man on drug trafficking charges last week. On Thursday May 4th, 2023, Officers with the Asheboro Police Department's Special Enforcement Team (SET) along with officers from the Vice/ Narcotics division initiated a traffic stop of a wanted suspect near the intersection of S Cox St and E Salisbury St. According to a police report from the department, as a result of that traffic stop Mr. Timothy Fore was arrested on an outstanding warrant for allowing an unlicensed driver, aid and abet, and driving with license revoked. No Injuries in Early Morning House Fire off MLK in Asheboro

ASHEBORO N.C. - No one was injured in a house fire early this morning off Martin Luther King Jr Dr in Asheboro. At 3:30 am, on May 9th, 2023, officers with the Asheboro Police Department reported a house fire at 625 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Firefighters with the Asheboro Fire/Rescue Department were dispatched and arrived on scene at 03:34 am. Initial reports indicated that there may have been people inside the residence, however a search determined that no one was inside the structure. Teen Leads Police on Chase Through County, Arrested

ASHEBORO N.C. - A call about a suspicious vehicle turned into a pursuit that ended with a teen in jail facing a list of felony charges. On May 5th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the area of Allred St. and West Main St., Franklinville, for a report of a suspicious vehicle. The caller provided a description of the occupants of the vehicle who had pulled over and were walking in the area. When deputies arrived, they spotted a male subject standing on the passenger side of the vehicle. "When the deputy turned on the vehicle spotlights, the male ran around the vehicle, entered the driver’s seat and drove off.
