Acme News ASHEBORO NC (ACME NEWS) - A vehicle chase which started in Asheboro ended in an arrest this evening. The Asheboro Police Department was not immediately available to comment. From 911 radio traffic we know the chase started in or near Asheboro and wound up on I-73/74 SB going for over 20 miles into Montgomery County, and reaching speeds of 120mph. Asheboro Police Department, Deputies with the Randolph & Montgomery County Sheriffs Office, and State Troopers with the NC Highway patrol were all involved. No word on the identity of the suspect, why they ran, or charges were available at the time of publication. We will post updates as more information becomes available. ASHEBORO NC – A mother and son had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital Wednesday afternoon after escaping a house fire. Randolph County 911 received a frantic call from the homeowner that her house was on fire at 2:12 PM. Staley Fire Department was dispatched to the house which was on Old Coleridge Rd, close to the Chatham County line and the first engine checked enroute in just slightly over one minute. Responding fire fighters reported seeing smoke from the fire one mile away, and reported flames coming through the roof when they arrived. According to the Randolph County Fire Marshals office a mother and her son were occupants of the residence at the time of the fire and were and were able to escape the home. ASHEBORO N.C. - Family members, friends, and the Randolph County Sherriff's Office are asking for help from the public locating a missing person. Steven Tyler Tuttle, White/Male, 5’08” tall / 190 lbs, 32 years of age, Blue eyes, Brown short hair He was last seen on Monday, May 31, 2021, in the area of Hinshaw Country Rd. in Liberty, NC. He was last seen wearing (an unknown color) t-shirt and gym shorts, and unknown brand or color tennis shoes. Tuttle has a tattoo on his left hand. What remains of Tropical Storm Fred will slowly move through the southeastern part of NC on Tuesday. Fred will bring with it heavy rains up in the mountains, but in the Piedmont we are only expecting a few scattered showers and thunderstorms. Rain and winds may be heavy at times with some possibility of localized severe storms and flooding. Again on Wednesday, the remnants of Fred will keep moving slowly to the northeast as the storms clear out of the area late on Wednesday. ASHEBORO NC – A Grand Jury has indicted an Asheboro man in the 2019 overdose death of Amber Cox and her unborn child. Back on April 7th 2019 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to an overdose at 1123 Ingram Dr. Asheboro NC. When they arrived they found Amber Leigh Cox unresponsive in what they said appeared to be a suspected heroin overdose. Police say the located evidence of recent drug use at the scene. Randolph County EMS arrived and attempted lifesaving procedures before pronouncing Cox and her unborn child deceased on the scene. Amber Cox was nine months pregnant at the time of her death. On August 12, 2021, at approximately 10:34 pm, the Randolph County Sheriff’s responded to a report of shots fired into a home on Old Mountain Rd. in Trinity. When deputies arrived, witnesses told them that someone had fired several shots into a home while several people were inside. ASHEBORO NC – Last week the NC shared the sad news of the loss of two of its animals. Paco On Aug 11th 2021, the NC Zoo announced on Facebook the passing of Paco the harbor seal. The cause of death had not yet been determined not yet determined, but the post shared to Facebook noted Paco did have a large lung mass. Paco lived at the NC Zoo’s Rocky Coast exhibit for 13 years. That's according to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. They say on on August 7, 2021, deputies pulled over a car on I-73/74 just south of the US 64 Bypass. While the deputy was speaking with the passenger, the driver was seen throwing something it into the tall grassy area on the side of the highway. When deputies searched that area they found a firearm that had been reported stolen to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office. Randolph County 911 Guil-Rand Fire and 3 EMS units to the crash involving two tractor trailers and three other vehicle. Davidson county crews have also been notified and are responding. ASHEBORO NC – the list of incentives is growing for anyone hasn't gotten their first COVID-19 vaccine, Randolph County Public Health announced they will be giving out a limited number of $25 Summer Cash Cards, starting on August 5th. UPDATE: On August 4th Randolph County Public Health announced that the amount of the Summer cash cards being offered has been increased from $25 to $100. (All the same rules and restrictions still apply) To be eligible you must be at least 18 years-old and be getting your first COVID-19 vaccine. If you’re getting your second dose you’re not eligible. Gift cards will also be given to anyone who drives someone to the health department to get the vaccine.
