ASHEBORO N.C. - Deputies and School Resource Officers across Randolph County are taking extra precaution today after receiving information about vague threats of a school shooting were found on social media. On the evening of May 4th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says it received information regarding a potential threat to schools in Randolph County. "Detectives are actively investigating a picture posted on Snapchat that shows an image of a phone screen with a message related to a threat to commit a school shooting on May 5," said the Sheriff's Office in a press release. ASHEBORO N.C. - Four suspects who were found in a vacant home in Archdale were arrested last weekend and charged with breaking and entering. On April 29th, 2023, Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress on Zelma Blvd., in Archdale. According to information released by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, when deputies arrived, they located and detained four suspects who were inside the residence. When deputies contacted the property owner, they advised they were in the process of removing the home and that no one should be inside. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man from Lexington is facing multiple charges after the Sheriff's Office says he held a woman against her will overnight in his vehicle. On April 21st, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Meadow Ct., in Trinity, for a report of an assualt. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, the victim reported that Roy Lee Evans, of Lexington, had held her against her will inside his vehicle throughout the night and assaulted her. Evans reportedly released her around 7:00 am and was told to leave. She was discovered by other people in the residence when they awoke and called 911. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local woman has been charged with arson after a house fire near Asheboro this week. On April 11th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Waynick Meadow Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a residential fire. When deputies arrived fire crews on scene had already contained the fire. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, deputies had responded to two earlier calls at the same residence for arguments between persons living at the address. One resident advised that she was inside when she heard someone beating on the outside of the residence and shouting that it was on fire. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers the misuse of opioid medications an epidemic. Proper disposal of expired, unused, and unneeded medications from the home is a crucial element of a strategy for promoting public health and safety. Each day, approximately 2,500 teenagers use prescription drugs to get high for the first time. ASHEBORO N.C. - The driver of a motorcycle who tried to flee from police Sunday was arrested after crashing his motorcycle. On April 9th, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to pull over a motorcycle near US Hwy 220 S. According to a press release, the driver fled onto Old State Highway starting a vehicle pursuit and onto US HWY 220 S. from Virgil Hill Road where he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed. Police say the driver, who was identified as Richard Anthony Vestal, Jr fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. Randolph County EMS responded to evaluate Vestal and he was transported to Randolph Health for evaluation. At the hospital, a search found suspected illicit drugs. ASHEBORO N.C. - A Randleman woman is facing multiple felony drug charges in two separate cases from last month according to the Sheriff's Office. On March 21st, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team, assisted by the Vice and Narcotics Division, initiated a traffic stop on I-73 in Randleman. According to a press release, a vehicle driven by Tracey Canoy Corum was pulled over, a search was conducted, and a trafficking amount of heroin was located, along with amphetamine and US currency. Corum was transported to the Randolph County Jail where probable cause was found for the charges of two counts felony trafficking in heroin, as well as other drug charges. ASHEBORO N.C. - Last month the Randolph County Sheriff's Office investigated eight vehicle thefts, which makes up almost half of the vehicle thefts reported in 2023 and data is already showing a spike in theft related calls this month. The crime dashboard maintained on the Sheriff's Office website shows that so far this year 18 motor vehicle thefts have been or are being investigated, eight of those occurred in March. To avoid being the victim of a vehicle theft the Sheriff's Office recommends the following advice: Lock your doors every time you leave your vehicle and take your keys. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man is in jail after being charged with rape by the Sheriff's Office. On December 14, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual crime. In a press release the Sheriff's Office says, "following a lengthy investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Christopher James Hazelwood of Asheboro, for felony 2nd degree forcible rape." The Sheriff's Offices' Criminal Apprehension Team located Hazelwood, on March 29th, 2023, during the execution of a search warrant. Hazelwood was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Jail, where he was served the warrant. The magistrate issued a $150,000 secured bond. Earlier today, April 3, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to Cameron Dr, in Asheboro, for a report of a burglary of a vehicle. According to a press release, when deputies arrived, they gathered information and determined two suspects had fled the area just prior to arrival; one into the woods to the west of the residence and the other male walking south on Cameron Dr. toward Robbins Cir.
