ASHEBORO N.C.  – The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for portions of central North Carolina, including Randolph County. Here is what you can expect. A period of light freezing rain is set to impact the northern Piedmont, mainly along and north of I-85, from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Here in Randolph County, forecasters are predicting around 0.02” of ice accumulation. Temperatures will remain right near the freezing point through the morning hours on Saturday and any freezing rain is expected to transition to rain by 4 a.m. Total rainfall for Saturday is expected to be around half to three quarters of an inch. On a post on the Town's Facebook page on January 31st, 2023, officials say in the next week they will be installing speed bumps on Wright Street and Liberty Street (Coleridge Rd to Jordan Rd portion). "We hope this will control the issues of speeding on these Town Streets." says the post.

ASHEBORO N.C. - The National Weather Service and the Department of Transportation are urging drivers of hazardous traveling conditions expected tonight. Road crews were out early this morning working to clear roads of snow and ice and combined with the bright sun today road conditions have dramatically improved. At around 1pm DOT crews were working to clear snow from the 73./74 interchange at Sunset Ave, but DOT is still reporting all interstates, highways, and roads in Randolph as "Covered With Snow/Ice". SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT Black ice expected from late this evening through Tuesday morning Temperatures will quickly fall below freezing after sunset this evening. Lingering wet roads due to snow melt will result in black ice as the liquid re-freezes. Black ice is difficult to see. Use caution while traveling. HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK Frequent gusts between 30 to 40 mph can be expected today. Any trees or tree limbs weakened by ice could fall, resulting in additional scattered power outages.
