NC SHP: Motorcyclist Dies in Crash on 220 Business

ASHEBORO N.C. – A motorcyclist was killed in a vehicle accident Wednesday evening in Asheboro.

At 5:57 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023, the State Highway Patrol responded to the report of a crash that occurred on US 220 Business at Industrial Park Avenue in Randolph County.

An 18-year-old driver of a 2022 Honda Accord passenger vehicle was traveling north on US 220 Business when they attempted to make a left turn onto Industrial Park Avenue from US 220. Chase Logan Fritz, 24, of Asheboro, N.C., was traveling south on US 220 Business operating a 2022 Kawasaki motorcycle and collided with the turning vehicle in the intersection.

Fritz died on-scene.

The driver of the Honda Accord suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. Investigators are set to meet with the Randolph County District Attorney’s Office regarding potential charges against the driver.

Excessive speed, on the part of Fritz, is believed to be a contributing factor in this collision.

US 220 Business at Industrial Park Avenue was closed for approximately two (2) hours during the investigation.

Troopers cleared the scene at 7:52 p.m.
