Armed Individual Leads Sheriff’s Office on Chase, Arrested

ASHEBORO N.C. – An armed individual who fled from police earlier this week was arrested and is now facing multiple charges.

That’s according to the Randolph Couty Sheriff’s Office who says on May 1st, 2023, their deputies responded to Harlow Rd, in the Archdale area, in reference to a reported armed person.

Randolph County 911 advised the deputies enroute that an armed suspect had left the scene and provided a description of the vehicle.

According to a press release, a deputy responding to the area located the suspect vehicle on Harlow near Tuttle Rd and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle fled.

A brief chase ensued, as the vehicle approached Checker Dr, the driver, whom police identified as Jose Santiago Pelayo, pulled over. Pelayo and a passenger were detained at the scene.

Other deputies responded to the caller’s location to speak with the victim who reported a car at the residence had been damaged.

Pelayo was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Jail where the magistrate found probable cause for charges multiple criminal and traffic charges including felony flee to elude arrest with motor vehicle, reckless driving, misdemeanor open container and driving while impaired. Mr. Pelayo was also cited for injury to personal property based on facts of the evidence on scene.

He was issued a $10,000 secured bond and is set to appear in Randolph County Count on June 13th, 2023.
