Local Auto Shop Dealing with Damage after Vehicle Chase ends in Crash

ASHEBORO N.C. – A suspect led Asheboro police on a brief chase before crashing into several vehicles at a local auto repair shop and fleeing the scene earlier this week.

According to a report from the Asheboro Police Department, in the early morning hours of November 15th, 2023, at around 2:30 a.m., an officer on patrol attempted to pull over a silver in color passenger car on E Presnell St. Police say the driver failed to stop leading to a short vehicle chase.

That chase ended after the driver lost control and crashed into several vehicles at Goldston’s Auto Repair on Gold Hill Rd.

A crash report from the department says the suspect was traveling east on E Presnell St., at an estimated 120 mph, when the driver lost control of the vehicle which went off the right side of the road, up a hill, went airborne and crashed into three vehicles parked at an auto repair business.

“Each one of those is a customer’s whose thinking they are going to be able to come pick them up at the end of the month and that can’t happen now,” said Paul Goldston, the owner of Goldston’s Auto Repair, who says he thinks all three vehicles are totaled.

“On the video you see him hit the hill and go airborne. I thought he was going to hit my wrecker I had been working on that’s parked right there” said Goldston as he spoke with a reporter the day after the incident.

After the crash, the driver fled the scene on foot and investigators have not yet been able to identify or locate the suspect.

According to the Asheboro Police Department, the responsibility for the damage is on the insurance company of the vehicle being chased, adding that the court could order the suspect to pay restitution and any claims against the vehicle’s insurance.
