ASHEBORO N.C. – A man arrested after ramming into another car in Asheboro confessed to murder in police custody, leading to Randleman Police locating a body in a closet.

On October 11th, 2022, just after 10:30 am, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to a call about a fight in progress at the intersection of East Pritchard St and Farr St. According to a police report from the incident, when officers arrived, a male stepped out of a vehicle, laid on the ground and put his hands behind his head before confessing to ramming the other vehicle and assaulting both the occupants with a knife.

Police identified that man as 26-year-old, David James Alexandro Rosales, and according to a separate crash report he had rammed the vehicle he was driving into another vehicle on E Pritchard St twice before attempting to leave but stopping when police arrived.

Rosales was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, communicating threats, assault on a female, and damage to personal property.

While in police custody Rosales told officers he had murdered 44-year-old Katie Bishop (the owner of the vehicle he was driving and roommate) and that her body was in a closet at 115 Reece Court Apartment R in Randleman. Asheboro Police requested Randleman Police to attempt to locate Katie Marie Bishop at the apartment.

According to a press release this morning when Randleman officers arrived at the apartment on Reece Court, they weren’t able to get anyone to answer the door. Officers then made entry into the apartment through a window. Once inside, officers located Bishop’s body in a closet as described by Rosales. It appeared Bishop had been stabbed and beaten to death with a blunt object.

Police say the motive is unknown at this time as is the relationship between Bishop and Rosales.

Rosales has been charged with murder and placed in the Randolph County Jail without bond. The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
