ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office has a arrested a male and charged him with sex crimes involving a minor. According to a press release, on May 28th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sex offense involving a minor. Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Jonathan Linden Brown for three counts felony indecent liberties with a child, two counts felony statutory sex offense with child <=15, and felony statutory rape of a child under 15 years old. ASHEBORO N.C. - Smoke from Canadian wildfires is bringing hazing conditions across North Carolina and triggering air quality alerts, again. The Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection, located in Winston-Salem, has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particles until midnight on Monday, July 17. Randolph County falls into this area. As of 3 p.m. PM 2.5 levels, which describes fine inhalable particles, with diameters that are 2.5 micrometers and smaller, were at 123 ppb (parts per billion) at the closest air quality monitoring station to Randolph County. Photo provided by Dollar General RAMSEUR N.C. - Earlier this week a bomb threat closed the Dollar General in Ramseur early and now police are asking anyone with information to contact them. On July 10th, 2023, Ramsuer Police and first responders were dispatched to the Dollar General Store located at 6493 Jordan Rd. According to police, an unknown subject called into the store requesting to speak with the manager who they told there was a bomb in a specific area of the store. Employees evacuated the store and called 911. Multiple searches of the store were conducted by officers and nothing suspicious was located. The business closed early due to the incident. Anyone who has any information regarding this incident is asked to contact Sgt Cox or Detective Zogopoulos.

ASHEBORO N.C. - The law finally caught up with a wanted suspect, who allegedly stole internet and telephone lines then fled from police in late June, after he was arrested and is in jail facing fifty-two warrants and charges from three counties. Charles Anthony Cox was wanted in Randolph County in connection with an incident in late June of 2023, when the Sheriff’s Office responded to Zoo Parkway, in Asheboro for a suspicious vehicle in the area. In that incident, police alleged that Cox fled from deputies attempting to pull him over, before dumping his passenger, and later his vehicle, and escaping on foot. RANDLEMAN N.C. - A search warrant in Randleman located heroin, cash, and a stolen firearm and led to the arrest of one person who is now facing felony drug and gun charges. On July 7th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit, assisted by the Criminal Interdiction Team and Randleman Police Department, concluded an investigation relating to the distribution of narcotics in Randolph County. That investigation led to police obtaining a search warrant for a home on E. Naomi Street in Randleman. Detectives say in that home, they located and seized a trafficking amount of Heroin, US Currency, and a firearm which had been reported stolen. The Randolph County Sheriff's Office and Public Library will be presenting programs for citizens about scams/frauds and ways to prevent them and protect yourself when using the internet.   H.E.L.P.S. or Helping Elders Learn to Prevent Scams is an outreach program by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach, in conjunction with the Randolph County Public Library System’s Digital Services Librarian. ASHEBORO N.C. - Late on Friday night deputies responding to a domestic call found themselves in a short vehicle chase that led to one person being arrested. On July 7th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Kemp Mill Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a violation of a Domestic Violence Protective Order, also known as a 50-B. According to information from the Sheriff's Office, the victim who was returning home saw what they believed to be a vehicle belonging to Robert Mitchell Jenkins on the property. The victim stated they had a 50-B Domestic Violence Protection Order in place and that Jenkins also had an outstanding warrant. The victim left and met with deputies in a nearby parking lot. Summers Run Apartments - Archive Photo / PJ WARD-BROWN/NORTH STATE JOURNAL ASHEBORO N.C. - The Asheboro Police Department's VICE/Narcotics unit served a search warrant at an Asheboro apartment complex late last month that located a large amount of drugs and led to the arrest of a suspect. According to a police report from the department, on June 28th, 2023, the VICE/Narcotics along with members of the Special Enforcment Team executed a search warrant at Summer Run apartments located at 2159 N. Fayetteville St. That search led to police seizing 145 grams of cocaine, US Currency, and drug paraphernalia. Police say they arrested Tevin Maurice Gray and charged him with multiple drug related charges. As of the time of this article Gray remains confined at the Randolph County Jail....

DOT, Gold Hill Road is closed between Randolph Tabernacle Road and East Presnell Street and may remain closed until 5 PM.
