[Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C. - Fire crews in Asheboro are on the scene of a commercial equipment fire that is under control at this time. Just before 5:30 pm, Randolph County 911 dispatched Asheboro Fire/Rescue to 2503 N Fayetteville St, located near the intersection of Pineview St, at Covanta Enviromental Solutions. Callers reported a fire inside a piece of machinery at the business. Asheboro Fire/Rescue's on scene command reported the fire under control at around 6 pm. No injuries have been reported so far. ASHEBORO N.C. - No one was injured in a house fire early this morning off Martin Luther King Jr Dr in Asheboro. At 3:30 am, on May 9th, 2023, officers with the Asheboro Police Department reported a house fire at 625 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Firefighters with the Asheboro Fire/Rescue Department were dispatched and arrived on scene at 03:34 am. Initial reports indicated that there may have been people inside the residence, however a search determined that no one was inside the structure. According to Samantha East, Fire and Life Safety Educator, and Public Information Officer for the Asheboro Fire/Rescue Department 6 units with eighteen personnel from the department were able to extinguish the fire by 03:57 am. ASHEBORO N.C. - Deputies and School Resource Officers across Randolph County are taking extra precaution today after receiving information about vague threats of a school shooting were found on social media. On the evening of May 4th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says it received information regarding a potential threat to schools in Randolph County. "Detectives are actively investigating a picture posted on Snapchat that shows an image of a phone screen with a message related to a threat to commit a school shooting on May 5," said the Sheriff's Office in a press release. ASHEBORO N.C. - On person has been transported to the hospital in serious condition after being shot earlier this afternoon in a neighborhood near Sunset Ave in Asheboro. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department, on April 11th, 2023, at 12:58 PM, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to the Quick Check at 509 Sunset Avenue in reference to a victim on the sidewalk of the store suffering from a small caliber gunshot wound to the lower torso. Randolph County EMS and Asheboro Fire/Rescue Department responded to the scene and the victim was transported to an out of county medical facility by Randolph County EMS for further medical treatment. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a single-engine Vans RV-12 aircraft crashed south of Greensboro Executive Airport in Guilford County around 11 a.m. local time Tuesday, April 11th, 2023. The aircraft crashed into a hill on the side of US Hwy 421, near the Monnett Road bridge, just south of the airport, closing the bridge as well as one lane of US Hwy 421 SB. Just before 6pm, the National Weather Service in Raleigh issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Randolph County after radar indicated a severe thunderstorm near Lexington, moving northeast at 30 mph with 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. Monday morning at approximately 10:45 am, emergency crews were called to the Zoo after receiving a report of a bomb threat. According to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 10:20 am this morning, a 911 caller reported a gray Nissan upside down in Caraway Creek on Caraway Mtn.
