Asheboro East Power Substation [Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C. - A fire at a power substation in Asheboro that left over 6,000 customers without power Saturday evening was caused by high winds. On April 1st, 2023, just after 7pm, Asheboro Fire and Rescue (AFRD) was dispatched to a report of a fire at the Asheboro East Power Substation on Spring St. Randolph County Emergency Services advised responding units that 911 callers had reported hearing an explosion, followed by a power outage in the area. Other callers were reporting a fire at, or near, the substation. ASHEBORO N.C. - Sheriff's deputies responding to a burglary of a vehicle ended up on a manhunt today that captured one suspect while another remains on the loose. Earlier today, April 3, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to Cameron Dr, in Asheboro, for a report of a burglary of a vehicle. According to a press release, when deputies arrived, they gathered information and determined two suspects had fled the area just prior to arrival; one into the woods to the west of the residence and the other male walking south on Cameron Dr. toward Robbins Cir. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man is facing criminal charges after the Sheriff's Office says he fired a gun out his car window following an argument. On March 19, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Branson Mill Rd., Randleman, in reference to an armed person. When deputies arrived, the victim told them that Abijah John Lewis II, had driven to his home and an argument ensued in the driveway, according to a press release. Police say as Lewis was backing out of the driveway, he fired a weapon out the driver’s side window. ASHEBORO NC - The Sheriff's Office arrested and charged three people for allegedly stealing items from a construction site in Trinity this week. On March 28, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of School Road and Trinity Road, in Trinity after receiving a call about a possible larceny/theft. When deputies arrived, they located a vehicle with three occupants at the construction site. The occupants were identified as Ronnie Dale Tate, Jr., Scott Russell Leonard, and Morgan Lindsey Davidson. The suspects were detained for an investigation which according to the Sheriff's Office uncovered evidence that the occupants were attempting to steal items from the premises after two catalytic converters were located in the back of the truck. On March 25th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Russell Walker Ave, in Randleman, after hearing a wanted suspect they were attempting to locate was in the area. When deputies arrived, they say they observed Ethan Wayne Stanley fleeing on foot. He was located hiding under an outbuilding and arrested. According to the Sheriff's Office, during a search following the arrest, marijuana and paraphernalia were in his possession. ASHEBORO N.C. - A surveyor working in North Asheboro earlier this week was robbed at gunpoint according to police. According to a report by the Asheboro Police Department on March 20th, 2023, at 11:57pm, officers responded to Ravenwood Dr located in the Franklin Village Mobile Home Park off North Fayetteville St in North Asheboro after receiving a report of a robbery. Officers spoke with the victim who stated he was working as a surveyor in the area for USIC, an underground utility company. The worker told police he was approached by two white males who pulled out a gun and held him at gunpoint while they stole several personal items and a bookbag containing survey equipment. ASHEBORO NC - A local man is in jail awaiting a court date after being arrested last week following a search warrant at a home in Asheboro. On March 22nd, 2023, the Asheboro Police Departments VICE/ Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at a home in Asheboro. During that search police say they located approximately 17.2 grams of crack cocaine, Suboxone strips, assorted drug paraphernalia, and $336. 92 in US currency. The homeowner, identified by police as Reginald Cleve Dunn was arrested and transported to the Randolph County where he was taken before &magistrate who found probable cause for his arrest for multiple drug related charges and was given a $50,000 secured bond. Monday morning at approximately 10:45 am, emergency crews were called to the Zoo after receiving a report of a bomb threat. On January 13th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Mill Race Ct., in Sophia, after receiving a call about a possible overdose. The caller reported a male subject was unconscious in the driveway of the residence. When Deputies arrived, they say they located Robert Crumpton, unconscious and lying in the driveway. Deputies cleared the scene for Randolph County EMS who responded to the scene to render aid. ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect who was wanted in three separate counties in connection with larceny charges was arrested on a traffic stop earlier this week. On March 20, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputy observed a vehicle that matched the description of a suspect vehicle in a recent larceny investigation and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Kennedy Rd., Trinity. Upon approaching the driver’s side, the deputy recognized the driver as the same suspect in that incident. The Sheriff's Office says the driver initially gave a false name but was later identified as Shavon Melissa Kennedy.
