ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man was arrested on warrants from both the Randolph County Sheriffs Office and the Asheboro Police Department for alleged sex crimes involving a child. On December 22, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report of a sexual offense allegedly committed by Luis Enrique Torres. That investigation led Detectives from the Sheriff's Office's Criminal Investigations Division to seek charges for two counts of Felony Indecent Liberties with aChild, Felony Statutory Sex Offense with a Child, and Misdemeanor Harassing Phone Calls. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man who led police on a vehicle chase was arrested early Saturday morning after police pulled over the "getaway vehicle" that had come to pick him up. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, on March 19, 2022, at around 3:00 am, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy tried to pull over a motorcycle on Finch Farm Rd., in the Trinity area. The driver failed to stop and a led police on a chase. On Bescher Chapel Road the driver fled into a field, ditched the motorcycle and fled on foot. Police setup a perimeter in the area and conducted traffic stops on vehicles. READ THE UPDATE TO THIS STORY Asheboro Police Announce Arrest in Millikan Ave Shooting ASHEBORO N.C. - A 17-year-old had to be airlifted in critical condition after being injured in a shooting late Saturday night. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department, on Saturday, March 19th, 2022, at approximately 10:58 PM, officers responded to Randolph Health in reference to a gunshot victim. When officers arrived they discovered that a 17 year-old juvenile had been shot in the head at a location on Millikan Avenue in Asheboro. ASHEBORO N.C. - Fire investigators are taking a look at yesterday's fire on Idelwild Dr Ext in Randleman that destroyed several buildings and over a dozen cars. On March 14th 2022, just after 6:30 pm, fire crews were dispatched to Idlewild Dr Ext for a reported fire at a junk-yard. Fire Marshal Michael Smith with the Randleman Fire Department says around 15 vehicles, two small outbuildings, one large garage, and a mobile home were all involved. Crews from Randleman, Asheboro, Sophia, Westside, and Climax Fire Departments all responded and were able to get the fire under control in around an hour and a half, but remained on scene for overhaul and clean-up for over 5 hours. (ACME NEWS) - Police are investigating how a local man who had been reported missing ended up deceased in a wooded area near an Asheboro apartment complex yesterday. On March 9th, 2022, around noon, patrol officers with the Asheboro Police Department were called to the 700 block of Breeze Hill Road, after getting a call about a missing person last seen in the area the day before. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man with 15 outstanding warrants was arrested during a traffic stop on I-73 last week, and things only got worse from there. According to a press release from the the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on March 3rd, 2022, Detectives with the Vice & Narcotics Unit pulled over a vehicle on I-73 North at exit 79. The driver, who they identified as Joseph Adam Spaugh, wanted out of the State of Georgia with full extradition as well as fifteen warrants. Spaugh was placed under arrest. During a search of the vehicle police say they found methamphetamine and paraphernalia. Spaugh was taken to the Randolph County Jail where police say they then found more methamphetamine when jail staff searched him. ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman was arrested after police say she set 5 separate fires in the Asheboro area that all occurred on the same day and in the same area. Police began investigating on March 3rd after fire crews and the Fire Marshal's Office called the Randolph County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Division to the scene of a fire on Cedar Grove Drive Extension in Asheboro. Fire crews reported five separate and distinct fires with one spreading to a vacant outbuilding, a second fire ignited three vehicles and the three other fires burned wooded areas. No injuries from the incident. Police began investigating the fires as arson that day.
