ASHEBORO N.C. — A U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Liberty in North Carolina was arrested overnight at a local park in Asheboro, accused of engaging in sexual activity with a minor. Late on Wednesday March 20th, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a local park past curfew. According to a press release from the Department, officers found a male, later identified as 27-year-old Eric Timothy Fitch with a 13-year-old juvenile female in the vehicle along with evidence that Fitch had engaged in sexual activity with the female. On Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, Troopers with the NC Highway Patrol responded to a crash on US 64 near Westbury Drive. Investigators say that a black 2017 Lexus RX 350 SUV passed a 2016 Toyota in a turning lane, resulting in a collision that sent the Toyota off the roadway to the right, striking an embankment, and a tree. The Lexus SUV fled the scene. The 38-year-old female driver of the Toyota was transported to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital for serious injuries. Accident scene on I-73/74 Southbound at Presnell St. (Scott Pelkey / North State Journal) ASHEBORO N.C. — A multi-vehicle accident has shut down I-73/74 southbound near the West Presnell Street exit. Just after 5 p.m. Randolph County 9-1-1 received multiple calls about several vehicles involved in a collision on I-73/74 near the Sunset Ave exit. Asheboro Fire and Rescue and Westside Fire Departments were dispatched and located two accident scenes. Two vehicles, including one overturned blocking both lanes of travel, were located on I-73/74 at the West Presnell Street exit. February 27th, 2024, was a difficult day, says the Sheriff’s Office. This morning, K9 Ziva and her handler were honored in an End of Watch ceremony with members of the Sheriff’s Office along with the agencies Honor Guard gathered to say goodbye to K9 Ziva before the pair were escorted to the veterinarian’s office. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, just after 4 a.m. on February 16th, 2024, deputies responded to Oakland Ave., Asheboro, for a reported hit-and-run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. ASHEBORO, N.C. (City of Asheboro) – Registration is currently underway for the 2024 Randolph County Senior Games.  The 2024 Games will be held March 6 – April 17. Randolph County Senior Games is a health and wellness promotion and education program for adult’s age 50 and better.  Senior Games not only offers athletic events but the SilverArts, a program for artisans and craftspeople.  While some participants are serious competitors, most are more interested in having fun, learning something new, and making new friends.  The Randolph County Senior Games truly has “Something for the Artist and Athlete in Everyone”. At 6:53 a.m. West-Side Fire & Rescue along with Ash-Rand Rescue, and Randolph County EMS were dispatched to NC 49, near Oak Hollow Drive for a two-vehicle accident. First responders arrived to find a two-vehicle accident with multiple patients, including one patient who was pinned-in a vehicle. The North Carolina Highway was notified and responded to investigate the crash.
