(CITY OF ASHEBORO)- The Asheboro Cultural and Recreation Services Department is providing Blended Learning American Red Cross Lifeguard Training throughout the spring, in preparation for the summer. The cost of the classes are $225.00. Participants must meet and pass all prerequisites set by the American Red Cross. These include being a minimum age of 15, and being able to complete a 300 meter swim, the retrieval and return of a 10 pound object from an 8 foot depth, and a 2 minute tread without the use of hands. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Asheboro Police Department VICE/ Narcotics unit conducted a search warrant at the home of a man on house arrest in Asheboro where they say they found drugs and guns. On Feb 8th 2022, the VICE/Narcotics unit along with the Special Enforcement Team of the Asheboro Police Department executed a search warrant at a home on Lakeview Rd. Police had obtained a search warrant for the home as well as for Jamie Edward York and Laura Elizabeth Dawson. Police say when executing a search warrant they located 3 firearms, including 2 handguns,one of which was determined to be stolen, and a sawed off shotgun. (ACME NEWS)- Two Deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff's office had to be taken to the hospital after they were both struck by a vehicle while crossing the road in Asheboro. According to Randolph County 911, at 12:31 p.m. a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office reported over the radio that her and another deputy had been struck by a vehicle in front of Glaze King Donuts on Albemarle Road. The fight took place Sunday night/Monday morning sometime after 1am at the Asheboro bar and restaurant. The ordeal was captured on video and later posted on Facebook. Broken up into stories with some posted out of order, the video shows how the fight starts as well as the fight itself and the aftermath of broken glass and knocked over tables and chairs. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man who shot into a house from a stolen vehicle last month was recently arrested and charged with a felony. On January 20, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Bingham Loflin Rd. in Asheboro for a shooting into a residence. Deputies say they located a bullet hole on the west side of the home which faced Bingham Loflin Rd and that bullet had made it through the wall and into the home. Crime Scene Investigations collected evidence from the scene. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office received a description of the vehicle and after learning that vehicle was taken without permission they say they were able to identify Dustin Wayne Bailey as a suspect. ASHEBORO N.C. - Four people have been charged after the Asheboro Police Departments Vice Narcotics unit conducted a search warrant on a home on N Elm St last month. Sometime in early January, Detectives with the Asheboro Vice/Narcotics unit say there were able to make a controlled purchase of crack cocaine using a confidential informant at a home on N. Elm St. Using evidence from that purchase police were able to obtain a search warrant for the home on Jan 13th 2022. On January 14th 2022, Detectives with the Asheboro Vice/Narcotics and Special Enforcement Team, executed that search warrant. ASHEBORO N.C. - Asheboro Police Departments VICE/Narcotics unit conducted a search warrant on a home last Wednesday that landed 2 people in jail and located drugs as well as several stolen guns and a stolen vehicle. According to a police report from the Asheboro Police Department on Wednesday Jan 26th 2022 the VICE/Narcotics team along with the Special Enforcement Team (SET) and the Department’s SWAT team conducted a search warrant on a home at 640 Tucker St in Asheboro. On the morning of Saturday January 29th 2022, a winter storm dropped 1-2” of snow across Randolph County and plunged temperatures into the teens. At around 07:00 am, a worker at Northpointe Assisted Living Facility on Pineview Rd in Randleman called 911 after finding 89-year-old Thelma Lorraine Armstrong Wray collapsed on the ground outside. She had no pulse and was not breathing. ASHEBORO N.C. - A call about possible drug activity led police to locating a suspect who had fled on foot and escaped earlier in the day. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on January 21st, 2022, a deputy in the area of Hwy 64 E near Asheboro observed a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle stolen from Old Cox Rd reported stolen on December 29th, 2021. The Sheriff’s Office says the deputy followed the vehicle to the Dollar General on US Hwy 64 E, where police say the suspect fled on foot.Additional deputies and a K-9 were dispatched to help locate the suspect but the K9 lost the scent on Loflin Pond Road.
