ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect has been arrested and charged with Felony Second Degree Murder in connection with a fatal shooting in Randleman on Jan 8th. Tonight the Randolph County Sheriff's Office announced in a press release that they arrested 19-year-old Alexandre Osorio Carbajal (who also goes by the alias Alexander Hernandez). They say Carbajal arrose as a suspect as they investigated the January 8th shooting in Randleman that killed 20-year-old Daniel Lopez Vences. Lingering wet roads due to snow melt will result in black ice as the liquid re-freezes. Black ice is difficult to see. Use caution while traveling. ASHEBORO N.C. - Over the last 48 hours, as the start of the winter storm gets closer, meteorologist have been watching their forecast models closely. Now, just hours before snow and sleet are set to start, new forecasts are changing the amount of snow and ice we can expect, with warnings of widespread power outages and treacherous travel conditions. WINTER STORM WARNING At 3am this morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh upgraded the Winter Storm Watch for our area to a Winter Storm Warning, starting at midnight tonight. A police report from the Asheboro Police Department shows that on January 10th 2022, at 5:07 P.M. officers responded to the 900 block of Martin Luther King Jr Dr after getting calls about multiple shots fired in the area. A total of 6 officers with both the Patrol and Special Enforcement Team (SET) responded to the area. The Asheboro Copperheads announced the re-branding this week, Starting immediately the team will be the Asheboro ZooKeepers. The website for the team has already made the switch, including a special site just for announcing the name change.The teams colors which were burnt orange and black are changing to khaki, brown, black, and jungle green. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Asheboro Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own today. Chris Hoover was with the department for 24 years rising to the rank of Battalion Chief while also a member of the Tabernacle Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, and Ash-Rand Rescue. Hoover sadly lost his battle with COVID-19 on January 8th 2022. On Sunday firefighters with Asheboro made the trip up to UNC Medical Center to bring back his casket. Along the route back fellow firefighters across the state came out to show their respect for our fallen hero. The Asheboro Fire Department issued the following press release today.
