ASHEBORO NC - Tonight we get back that hour of sleep we lost back in March as we “fall back” to the time of year when it gets dark at 4:30 in the afternoon. At 2 AM on Sunday November 7th clocks will be set back 1 AM to repeat the hour. Originally started in the US in 1918 as a war-time measure to help conserve energy, the tradition stayed around after the war and is still going today. Does it actually conserve energy? Not really, according to a report by the U.S. Department of Transportation, daylight saving time reduced electricity usage by only 1 percent but had no impact on home heating. Remains Found In Asheboro Home Were Not Human Says SBI

felipecaparros / Adobe Stock ASHEBORO NC - The SBI crime lab says that results from a bone found in an Asheboro home last week were not human. According to information released by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, on October 30th 2021, their deputies were called to a citizens assist at a home one Grantville Lane in Asheboro. A citizen had found what appeared to be a bone in the subflooring of their home while remodeling and were concerned it was human. Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Investigations responded and collected the object in question which was sent to the SBI lab in Raleigh for analysis and further investigation. All active duty, reserve, veteran, and retired military personnel from all military branches will get free admission as well as $2 off admission for up to six accompanying guests for from November 8 – 14, 2021. ASHEBORO NC - The Asheboro Police Department says they are investigating a death near the Motel 6 in Asheboro this morning and they don't suspect foul play. According to a press release by the department on Thursday, October 28th, 2021, just after 7 AM, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to 901 Albemarle Road for a call about a male on the ground, unconscious and not breathing. Fire and EMS personnel were unable to resuscitate the victim and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Detectives with the Asheboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division responded and are investigating. The victim was identified as Dennis Brandon Hill, age 34, of Asheboro. ASHEBORO NC – Two officers helped a stranded motorist push his car into a parking lot before they ended up arresting him. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on October 14, 2021, one of their deputies and an SBI agent stopped to help a driver whose car had broken down on McDowell Road near the Sherriff's Office. The two officers helped push the vehicle into the parking lot when they say they noticed the driver was under the influence. The driver, identified as Ricardo Palacios, had an outstanding Order for Arrest for Failure to Appear for Resisting a Public Officer and was placed under arrest.
