Woman Arrested After Pulling Gun on Deputies During Welfare Check

ASHEBORO N.C. - A local woman is facing several charges after the Sheriff's Office says she pulled a gun on deputies attempting to perform a welfare check at the home last week. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on November 3rd, 2022, deputies responded to Low Bridge Rd., in Liberty, to conduct a welfare check of children following a domestic dispute. The Sheriff's Office says when deputies arrived a female, whom they identified as Melisa Ann Herriott, opened the front door of the residence, and simultaneously pointed a handgun directly at one of the deputies. LIBERTY N.C. - The North Carolina Department of Transportation says a portion of NC Hwy 49 in Liberty will be closed for several days as crews work to replace a crossline. According to a Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) Alert sent out this morning Hwy 49 in Liberty will be closed between mile markers 36.4 to 37.3 (between S Valley St and Highfill St). Work is expected to start on Monday July 25th and end on Friday July 29th 2022. ASHEBORO N.C. - Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Raleigh have issued a hazardous weather outlook warning of possible severe thunderstorms, strong winds, and localized flooding for Wednesday. Almost all of central North Carolina including the Triad was placed under a level 2 "slight risk" by the Storm Prediction Center. Meteorologist say Wednesday afternoon, likely around 3 pm, is when they expect to see the greatest threat of severe weather. ASHEBORO N.C. - Despite warnings from the North Carolina Forest Service of a High fire danger yesterday, fire crews across the county responded to at least six out of control fires. Yesterday the North Carolina Forest Service warned of an increased fire danger resulting from warm and dry conditions with low humidity and winds of 10 to 15 mph that were gusting as high as 20 and 25 mph. Their warning said that outdoor burning was highly discouraged, but did not go as far as banning outdoor burning.
