ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man who shot at officers during a standoff in Liberty back in 2020 has been indicted by a Grand Jury and is facing multiple charges including Felony Attempted Murder. On September 13, 2020, deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from the Liberty Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Hwy 49 N, just outside the Liberty city limits, regarding a domestic call and shots were fired inside the residence. The suspect, Robert Dwight Bender, had retreated into a structure behind the residence and the caller was safely removed from the house. Michael Dwayne Wilkerson, age 34, was last seen by family on September 15th, 2011, in the area of Burney Road and New Hope Church Road in Asheboro.. Police say they located a wrecked pickup truck that same day which had Wilkerson's cell phone in it but there was no one in or around the totaled truck. The Sheriff's Office says the last call made on that cell phone wasphone had been made about 2:30 am. ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect has been charged with Felony Assault after police say the found a victim unconscious in a home in Ramseur. According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on May 23rd, 2022, deputies with the patrol division responded to Fox Grove Rd., in Ramseur, after getting a call about an assault. When emergency crews arrived they located the victim unconscious inside the residence. Fire and EMS provided medical treatment before transporting the victim to an area hospital. ASHEBORO N.C. - A Randolph County man wanted for escaping house arrest was located in West Virginia this week where he was captured by a local bail bond company. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on April 28th, 2022, the Electronic House Arrest Officers received notification that Jerry Allen Harlow, Jr. had removed his monitoring device. Harlow was placed on electronic house arrest on September 10th, 2020, for multiple Felony Sex Offenses. Deputies responded and were able to locate the monitoring device along the roadway near Harlow's registered address on Harlow Rd., in Archdale. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on April 27th, 2022, School Resource Officer received information that a female was possibly attempting to sell narcotics in the parking lot of Wheatmore High School. RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C.  — Randolph County officials are warning the public of a scam involving a letter from the non-existent "Tax Processing Unit of Randolph County".  According to reports concerned citizens have reported receiving a letter in the mail with a bold heading claiming the notice is a “Distraint Warrant.” This letter from the “Tax Processing Unit of Randolph County” attempts to scare residents to respond by stating “levying procedures will begin within 15 days of its receipt.” There is NO such County agency and this is an attempt to scam residents into paying a fake tax debt. Rona Lee Brown According to information released by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, during the February session of the Randolph County Grand Jury, a True Bill of Indictment was issued on Rona Lee Brown following an investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit which say they seized approximately 59 grams of Methamphetamine. The indictment issued for Brown was for Felony Trafficking in Methamphetamine (2 Counts) and Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell/Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office on April 13th and 14th, 2022, the agencies Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Team conducted Operation "I See You", focusing on child pornography cybertips, to determine the validity of just over 100 pending tips by conducting interviews, computer examinations, cell phone data extractions, and analyzing evidence.
