Police Chase Sunday Ends in Driver Crashing / Under Arrest

ASHEBORO N.C. - The driver of a motorcycle who tried to flee from police Sunday was arrested after crashing his motorcycle. On April 9th, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to pull over a motorcycle near US Hwy 220 S. According to a press release, the driver fled onto Old State Highway starting a vehicle pursuit and onto US HWY 220 S. from Virgil Hill Road where he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed. Police say the driver, who was identified as Richard Anthony Vestal, Jr fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. Randolph County EMS responded to evaluate Vestal and he was transported to Randolph Health for evaluation. At the hospital, a search found suspected illicit drugs. Randleman Woan Facing Felony Drug Trafficking Charges

ASHEBORO N.C. - A Randleman woman is facing multiple felony drug charges in two separate cases from last month according to the Sheriff's Office. On March 21st, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team, assisted by the Vice and Narcotics Division, initiated a traffic stop on I-73 in Randleman. According to a press release, a vehicle driven by Tracey Canoy Corum was pulled over, a search was conducted, and a trafficking amount of heroin was located, along with amphetamine and US currency. Corum was transported to the Randolph County Jail where probable cause was found for the charges of two counts felony trafficking in heroin, as well as other drug charges. ASHEBORO N.C. - Earlier today we reported on data from the Sheriff's Office showing in March of this year the agency investigated eight vehicle thefts, making up almost half of the reported vehicle thefts so far this year. As a follow up to that article (which you can read here), we are detailing just a few of the cases we are aware of from March. In early February detectives with the Criminal Interdiction Team were investigating two reports of stolen vehicles on Oakland Ave, in Asheboro. According to the Sheriff's Office, detectives discovered that the vehicles sold by Harley Marie Roark Davis and Lashanda Kay Schwarcbher for scrap metal. ASHEBORO N.C. - Last month the Randolph County Sheriff's Office investigated eight vehicle thefts, which makes up almost half of the vehicle thefts reported in 2023 and data is already showing a spike in theft related calls this month. The crime dashboard maintained on the Sheriff's Office website shows that so far this year 18 motor vehicle thefts have been or are being investigated, eight of those occurred in March. To avoid being the victim of a vehicle theft the Sheriff's Office recommends the following advice: Lock your doors every time you leave your vehicle and take your keys. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man is in jail after being charged with rape by the Sheriff's Office. On December 14, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual crime. In a press release the Sheriff's Office says, "following a lengthy investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Christopher James Hazelwood of Asheboro, for felony 2nd degree forcible rape." The Sheriff's Offices' Criminal Apprehension Team located Hazelwood, on March 29th, 2023, during the execution of a search warrant. Hazelwood was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Jail, where he was served the warrant. The magistrate issued a $150,000 secured bond. ASHEBORO N.C. - A search warrant at a home in Seagrove last month located drugs, cash and two guns and led to the arrest of one person who is now facing felony trafficking charges. On March 29, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Division concluded an investigation related to the distribution of narcotics in Randolph County. Detectives, along with the Criminal Interdiction Team and the Seagrove Police Department, executed a search warrant at a residence located on Auman St. in Seagrove, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office. ASHEBORO N.C. - Sheriff's deputies responding to a burglary of a vehicle ended up on a manhunt today that captured one suspect while another remains on the loose. Earlier today, April 3, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to Cameron Dr, in Asheboro, for a report of a burglary of a vehicle. According to a press release, when deputies arrived, they gathered information and determined two suspects had fled the area just prior to arrival; one into the woods to the west of the residence and the other male walking south on Cameron Dr. toward Robbins Cir. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man is facing criminal charges after the Sheriff's Office says he fired a gun out his car window following an argument. On March 19, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Branson Mill Rd., Randleman, in reference to an armed person. When deputies arrived, the victim told them that Abijah John Lewis II, had driven to his home and an argument ensued in the driveway, according to a press release. Police say as Lewis was backing out of the driveway, he fired a weapon out the driver’s side window. ASHEBORO NC - The Sheriff's Office arrested and charged three people for allegedly stealing items from a construction site in Trinity this week. On March 28, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of School Road and Trinity Road, in Trinity after receiving a call about a possible larceny/theft. When deputies arrived, they located a vehicle with three occupants at the construction site. The occupants were identified as Ronnie Dale Tate, Jr., Scott Russell Leonard, and Morgan Lindsey Davidson. The suspects were detained for an investigation which according to the Sheriff's Office uncovered evidence that the occupants were attempting to steal items from the premises after two catalytic converters were located in the back of the truck.
