ASHEBORO N.C. - This month the Randolph County Grand Jury handed down indictments for a local woman on several drug and trafficking charges. During the November 2023 session of the Randolph County Grand Jury, True Bill of Indictments were issued on Erica Lynn Locklear for the distribution of narcotics in Randolph County. According to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, these indictments were issued as a result of investigations conducted by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Unit. Erica Lynn Locklear has been indicted for multiple felony drug charges. She was served on November 18, 2023, and received a $250,000 secured bond. ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect led Asheboro police on a brief chase before crashing into several vehicles at a local auto repair shop and fleeing the scene earlier this week.  According to a report from the Asheboro Police Department, in the early morning hours of November 15th, 2023, at around 2:30 a.m., an officer on patrol attempted to pull over a silver in color passenger car on E Presnell St. Police say the driver failed to stop leading to a short vehicle chase.  That chase ended after the driver lost control and crashed into several vehicles at Goldston’s Auto Repair on Gold Hill Rd. Photo courtesy - Dollar General, Corporate (Newsroom) ASHEBORO N.C. - No one was injured after smoke inside an Asheboro Dollar General resulted in a commercial fire response overnight.   On the evening of November 15th, 2023, the Asheboro Fire and Rescue Department (AFRD) responded to a report of a possible commercial fire at the Dollar General, located at 1450 Zoo Parkway.  Fire crews were dispatched at 8:38 p.m., and the first unit arrived on scene at 8:42 p.m. to find light smoke in the store. The business had been evacuated before the AFRD's arrival and it was determined that the source of the smoke was a malfunctioning freezer. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man was arrested yesterday afternoon after police say he robbed the First Bank in Asheboro. On November 14th, 2023, just before 4 p.m. officers responded to First Bank in Asheboro located at 335 S. Fayetteville St., for a report of an armed robbery.  According to a press release by the Asheboro Police Department, a white male suspect passed a note demanding money. After obtaining an unknown amount of currency the suspect exited the business on foot, fleeing towards the Asheboro Summit Apartments located next door to the bank.   Witnesses reported he entered the rear of the building and entered the elevator and officers located the suspect hiding in the shower of room 503, where they also say they located clothing worn during the robbery. RANDLEMAN N.C. - A driver was charged with driving under the influence last night after crashing into a bar in Randleman.  At around 10:30 p.m., Randleman Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed into Red Zone Sports Bar & Grill, located at 725 S Main St, in Randleman.  Emergency crews arrived to find a dark GMC SUV that had crashed through a gate and into the east side of the building. Randolph County EMS responded to the scene to evaluate the driver, who refused transport to the hospital. No other injuries were reported.  The Randleman Police Department investigated the crash, which led to 27-year-old Peyton Alley Clark being issued a summons for driving under the influence. ASHEBORO N.C. - A warning from the National Weather Service of increased fire danger today comes as local fire crews return from assisting with the Poplar Drive Fire in Henderson County.  Today at 9:15 a.m., the National Weather Service Office in Raleigh issued a notice that low humidity, dry conditions, and northeasterly wind gusts of up to 15 mph will create conditions for an increased fire danger today through 7 p.m.  Officials strongly encourage citizens to avoid any outdoor burning, properly discard cigarette butts and matches and be careful with equipment that may cause sparks.  The warnings come amid an uptick in brush and forest fires. Just before 6 p.m., Randolph County 911 dispatched Westside and Asheboro Fire Departments along with Randolph County EMS to US Hwy 64 W at Mack Rd, for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in front of the Citgo. According to officials with Randolph County EMS, one patient was reported to have sustained critical injuries and was being temporarily transported to Randolph Hospital as emergency crews awaited a helicopter.
