ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) – One person is dead today after shots rang out at a party late last night in Randleman. What we have learned today is that on January 8th 2022, a private party was being held at a residence on Leonae Drive in Randleman. At around 10:30 p.m. approximately 20 people who weren't invited showed up and just an hour and fifteen minutes later at 11:45 p.m., a fight broke out in the front yard. During that fight multiple gunshots were fired by an unknown subject. The shooter fled the scene along with most of the guests immediately following the shooting. A flood of 911 calls came in and at 11:58 p.m. the Randolph County Sheriff’s office along with fire and EMS responded to the scene. Overnight heavy rains and high winds downed trees and knocked out power. While the snow continues to fall, rain and high winds are the primary concern today. A Wind Advisory remains in effect for Randolph County until 4 p.m. Monday. Strong winds will with gusts up to 45 miles per hour are expected to knock down trees and create hazardous driving conditions. ASHEBORO N.C. — A victim woke up to find two burglars in their home before being assaulted and having their dog stolen. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on November 29th, 2021, their deputies responded to Joe Branson Road in Bennett after getting a call about a breaking and entering and assault. The victim told police they woke up to two subjects entering their bedroom. One of the suspects assaulting the victim before the suspects took a dog from the residence as they left. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man was shot and his car stolen this morning in Trinity, and now police are asking the public to be on the look out for a suspect vehicle. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office at around 9 a.m. this morning they responded to a call about an assault at the Dollar General on Hwy 62 in Trinity. A 911 caller had reported that the victim had come into the store asking for help stating he had been shot and his car stolen. Randolph County EMS transported the victim to an area hospital. ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) - A suspect trying to flee from police was involved in a fiery head on crash that shut down the westbound lanes of the 64 Bypass this afternoon. In an email the Randolph County Sheriff's Office says that the Criminal Apprehension Team was conducting surveillance on a wanted subject and attempted to pull them over on the Hwy 64 Bypass in Asheboro. That's when police say the suspect refused to stop and a chase ensued. In the area of the ramp for the Zoo Connector, police say the suspect left the roadway and made a U-turn and began driving the wrong direction in the west bound lane. ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) - Several businesses were evacuated just before Noon today after black smoke was spotted in the Kitchen of Coach's restaurant on Hwy 49 in Asheboro. Firefighters from Asheboro's Station 1 & 2 responded to the scene along with Asheboro PD and Randolph County EMS. According to officials on scene they believe that grease that had built up in or near the HVAC system began to smoke after the heat was turned on in the kitchen. The fire put its self out after the system was turned off. No one was injured and the all other businesses have re-opened. UPDATE: Acme News verified that Coach's has re-opened as of 1:20 P.M. ASHEBORO - An altercation on Albemarle Road involving a gun triggered a lock down at two Asheboro schools. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department, on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at approximately 2:25 PM, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to the 500 block of Albemarle Road after receiving a call about an armed person. The callers reported an altercation between multiple people, with at least one who was armed with a handgun. Asheboro High School, South Asheboro Middle School were placed on lockdown and an officer was posted at the nearby child care facility.
