ASHEBORO, N.C. (NC ZOO)– Today, the North Carolina Zoo announces the permanent closure of its Aviary Habitat. Built in the early 1980s, the 40-year-old domed structure requires significant repairs due to the effects of high humidity and wet conditions. The difficult decision to close and take down the habitat has been made by Zoo leadership and the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. "For 40 years, the Zoo's Aviary offered a special place to connect with nature," said North Carolina Zoo's Director Pat Simmons. "The free-flying birds and tropical plants served as an oasis for many people - guests and staff alike. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Asheboro Police Department has announced today that they have charged four individuals in connection with the shooting of a 17 year-old on Millikan Ave back on March 19th 2022. In a press release sent out today, the Asheboro Police Department announced that on the March 29th 2022 Detective L. Johnson with the Asheboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division secured charges on four individuals for the shooting of a 17 year-old juvenile which occurred back on March 19th 2022 on Millikan Avenue in Asheboro. ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) - No one was injured in a house fire in Asheboro where firefighters arrived to find a fully involved house fire Friday afternoon. Just before 2:30 pm, on Friday March 25th 2022, Firefighters with the Asheboro Fire Department were called to a house on N Church Street. First unit to arrive on scene advised a small house was fully involved. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in just under an hour. The house involved was a total loss and the American Red Cross was called in to assist the residents who were displaced. The heat from the fire also damaged a neighbor's fence and siding and power had to be temporarily cut off after live power lines began arching and shooting out sparks. Acme News ASHEBORO N.C. - For 2 minutes on Tuesday afternoon officers with the Asheboro Police Department thought they were racing towards the call no officer wants to hear, but it all turned out to be a misunderstanding. The afternoon of Tuesday March 22nd officers with the Asheboro Police Department had been on the scene of a shooting on Kemp Blvd where a 19-year-old and two juveniles had been shot for just shy of two hours. At the same time deputies and troopers were out on Vision Drive with a driver who was being arrested for DUI after being chased down by a DMV officer who saw the driver firing a gun into the air while driving down the road.
