CSI Crime Scene ( prathaan/Adobe Stock) ASHEBORO N.C. - Asheboro Police are investigating after an altercation led to shots being fired on Martin Luther King Jr Drive striking at least one vehicle and a home. A police report from the Asheboro Police Department shows that on January 10th 2022, at 5:07 P.M. officers responded to the 900 block of Martin Luther King Jr Dr after getting calls about multiple shots fired in the area. A total of 6 officers with both the Patrol and Special Enforcement Team (SET) responded to the area. The Asheboro Copperheads announced the re-branding this week, Starting immediately the team will be the Asheboro ZooKeepers. The website for the team has already made the switch, including a special site just for announcing the name change.The teams colors which were burnt orange and black are changing to khaki, brown, black, and jungle green. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Asheboro Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own today. Chris Hoover was with the department for 24 years rising to the rank of Battalion Chief while also a member of the Tabernacle Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, and Ash-Rand Rescue. Hoover sadly lost his battle with COVID-19 on January 8th 2022. On Sunday firefighters with Asheboro made the trip up to UNC Medical Center to bring back his casket. According to several police reports from the Asheboro Police Department, their VICE unit along with agents from NC Alcohol Law Enforcement conducted undercover buys of alcohol using an underage operative over a three day span from Dec 6th through Dec 8th 2021. The operation was a part of the departments ABC Law Enforcement Service contract with the Asheboro ABC Board which states the department must conduct underage compliance checks at no less than 25% of ABC permitted businesses in the city each calendar year. ASHEBORO N.C. — A convicted felon was arrested yesterday in Thomasville in connection with a November assault where the Sheriff’s Office says the he broke into a home, assaulted the victim, and tied them up. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says in a press release that on November 17th 2021, their deputies were called to a home on Pisgah Covered Bridge Rd. in Asheboro after getting a call from a victim who said they had escaped being tied up at the home. The victim stated they knew the suspect and identified him as Kevin Andrew Blue. According to police Blue broke into the home, assaulted the victim and tied them up. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, on December 22nd, 2021, their Vice and Narcotics unit working with the Asheboro Police Department concluded an investigation after receiving information about an the distribution of Heroin and Fentanyl in Asheboro.That investigation led detectives to execute a search warrant at the Motel 6 in Asheboro at 827 Albemarle Rd. Police say that search found a "trafficking amount" of Fentanyl was located, along with Alprazolam (a generic form of Xannax), drug paraphernalia and US Currency. ASHEBORO N.C. — A vehicle chase involving a suspect driving a stolen vehicle in Asheboro last Saturday ended after that suspect crashed, ran from police before being caught and was arrested. According to information from the Asheboro Police Department Officer Bym attempted to pull over a 2015 Red Kia Rio which had been reported stolen to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. Police say the vehicle failed to stop and attempted to flee starting a vehicle pursuit. That pursuit only went for 6.2 miles before ending after the vehicle crashed near a home in the 3500 block of NC Hwy 42. The suspect was able to flee on foot but was arrested after a short foot chase. Police identified the suspect as 29 year-old Hunter Nichols from Franklinville.
