Investigators with the Randolph County Sheriffs Office and Asheboro Police Department investigate a fatal shooting on Plummer St overnight. (Scott Pelkey / Acme News) ASHEBORO NC (ACME NEWS) - On Saturday, April 3, 2021, Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shooting on Plummer Street in Asheboro. The arriving officers found three subjects at the home, all with gunshot wounds. According to a statement by the Randolph County Sherriff's Office, 27-year old Robert Lewis Spencer was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other subjects were transported to nearby trauma hospitals. One subject is currently in surgery and the other is in stable condition. ASHEBORO NC - A Florida man is in jail after kidnapping a woman at gunpoint and leading police in a high-speed chase vehicle chase Saturday afternoon. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department on Saturday, April 3rd, 2021, at around 1:42 PM, a 31-year-old female was kidnapped at gunpoint while sitting in a vehicle on Coleridge Rd in Asheboro. The suspect who police identified as 32-year-old Manuel Jesus Robles from Ocala, Florida, allegedly "forced the woman into a vehicle owned by the victim, which had been stolen earlier" according to a statement issued by the department. Asheboro Man Charged With Kidnapping / Sexually Abusing Child

ASHEBORO NC - An Asheboro man was has been charged with kidnapped and sexually abused a child. According to police reports Justine Wayne Queen was arrested on Thursday, March 18th. Queen has been charged with felony first-degree kidnapping and seven counts of felony statutory sex offense with a child less than 15. Queen is being held at the Randolph County Jail under a $1 million secured bond.

ASHEBORO NC (ACME NEWS) - A second and likely related shooting in Asheboro left one dead Monday night. According to a press release by the Asheboro Police Department, on Monday, March 22nd at 9:21 PM, officers responded to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Dr and Loach St in reference to a reported gunshot victim. Officials at the police department say the responding officers found a male subject who had been shot on the ground. Paramedics later declared the victim deceased at the scene. Detectives are on scene and investigating at this time. In a statement, Chief Mark Lineberry said that so far they believe this is a retaliatory incident to the previous shooting that occurred at the C Store in Asheboro on Sunday night. ASHEBORO NC (ACME NEWS) - Police are investigating what led to a shooting that left a man in serious condition Sunday Night. According to Chief Mark Lineberry with the Asheboro Police Department, officers responded to calls of gunshots in the area near 401 East Salisbury St at 7:18 PM. As more 911 calls came in responding officers learned that a subject had been shot. Arriving officers say the 22-year-old Kalil Jabri Cuthrell with two gunshot wounds. EMS arrived and transported Cuthrell to Randolph Hospital, where he was later airlifted to a trauma center. He is currently listed in serious but stable condition. According to a press release by the NC Highway Patrol, at 6:19 AM on Monday, March 1st, 2021, troopers responded to I-73 near Vision Drive to a report of multiple vehicle accidents.  According to an official statement, the incident started when Ronald Wheeler, 60, of Albemarle N.C., was traveling north in a 2012 Peterbilt tractor-trailer in the left lane. Admission Rebounding Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people who visited the zoo plummeted in 2020. The initial phases of the state's stay at home order went into effect between March and June when attendance is typically at its highest.
