ASHEBORO N.C. - The Sheriff's Office says a local homeowner called to report a burglary after he arrived home to find a man wearing only a blanket trying to steal their ATV. On July 25th, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Driftwood Dr., in Archdale, after receiving a call about a burglary in progress. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, when the victim returned home along with finding his dogs had been let out and his ATV was missing from his carport, he also noticed a man in the woods without any clothing on. ASHEBORO N.C. - A driver who sped past a police officer last weekend was arrested after being pulled over for speeding once officers realized the driver was intoxicated, with drugs and a gun in the car. On Saturday July 23rd 2022, a patrol officer with the Asheboro Police Department was about to turn onto North Fayetteville Street when they saw a dark in color passenger car drive past them at a high rate of speed. According to a police report, once the officer caught up to the vehicle they matched their speed with the suspect vehicle they estimated the suspect vehicle to be traveling at 86 mph, almost double the posted speed limit of 45mph. ASHEBORO N.C. - A driver is facing a laundry list of charges after police say they found her barely breathing behind the wheel of an SUV last week, after she struck 2 street signs and part of a convenience store on Sunset Ave. According to police reports from the Asheboro Police Department on Wednesday July 13th just before 3:30am, officers responded to 509 Sunset Ave in Asheboro for a report of a suspicious vehicle. When officers arrived they say they located a gray SUV running, with its lights next to a dumpster in a grassy area next the the Quik Chek. ASHEBORO N.C. - What started as a call for a possible overdose in Asheboro ended with two people arrested, a gun seized, a stolen car recovered, all after a vehicle chase. On June 30, 2022 at around 6pm emergency crews and police were called to a possible overdose in the parking lot of the Randolph Mall. The 911 caller stated two subjects were slumped over inside a vehicle, which was parked in front of Belks. According to Assistant Chief of Police Robbie Brown with the Asheboro Police Department, officers arrived and located the vehicle. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on April 27th, 2022, School Resource Officer received information that a female was possibly attempting to sell narcotics in the parking lot of Wheatmore High School. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man with 15 outstanding warrants was arrested during a traffic stop on I-73 last week, and things only got worse from there. According to a press release from the the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on March 3rd, 2022, Detectives with the Vice & Narcotics Unit pulled over a vehicle on I-73 North at exit 79. The driver, who they identified as Joseph Adam Spaugh, wanted out of the State of Georgia with full extradition as well as fifteen warrants. Spaugh was placed under arrest. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on March 4th, 2022, a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle near Howard Mill Rd and Bennett Rd. Police say the driver sped up and led police on a short vehicle chase that ended when the driver turned on to Waddell's Ferry Rd. and ended up on the dirt and gravel portion of the road near the Deep River when the vehicle became disabled. On March 1st 2022, just before midnight an officer with the Asheboro Police Department responded to the Madison Heights apartments on N Fayetteville Street after getting a call about a burglary in progress. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Asheboro Police Department VICE/ Narcotics unit conducted a search warrant at the home of a man on house arrest in Asheboro where they say they found drugs and guns. On Feb 8th 2022, the VICE/Narcotics unit along with the Special Enforcement Team of the Asheboro Police Department executed a search warrant at a home on Lakeview Rd. Police had obtained a search warrant for the home as well as for Jamie Edward York and Laura Elizabeth Dawson. Police say when executing a search warrant they located 3 firearms, including 2 handguns,one of which was determined to be stolen, and a sawed off shotgun.
