Photo Provided by: Randolph Community College ASHEBORO (Randolph Community College) — Randolph Community College recently gave approximately 200 students a fresh start by paying off outstanding debt, totaling nearly $113,000. Any student who was enrolled at the College between March 13, 2020 (the start of the COVID-19 pandemic) until the end of the Summer 2021 semester was eligible for the assistance. In addition to paying off outstanding student account balances, RCC has been able to help students through the pandemic by providing emergency financial assistance for such needs as food, housing, laptops, and internet access. ASHEBORO NC - A joint investigation between the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the Asheboro Police Department has landed two people in jail on felony drug trafficking charges. In a press release, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says their Vice/Narcotics Unit and the Asheboro Police Departments Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a joint investigation into the distribution of Methamphetamine in the Asheboro area. On August 3rd that investigation led to a traffic stop of a car driven by Crystal Lilly Chiappini and Matthew Charles Chiappini, on I-73 in Randleman. Police say a search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding and seizing a trafficking amount of Methamphetamine. ASHEBORO NC - The Sherriff's Office's Vice/Narcotics division executed two search warrants last week leading to two arrests. According to the Randolph County Sherriff's Office, on June 17, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Unit, along with the Urban Criminal Interdiction Team, concluded an investigation related to the distribution of Heroin in the Sophia / Randleman area. That investigation led to deputies conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Alfredo Antonio Palacios, Jr. near Pineview St. in Asheboro, as well as a search warrant being executed on Palacios residence located on Old Marlboro Rd. in Sophia. ASHEBORO NC - A local man is facing ten felony charges after a tip to the Sheriff's Office. According to a press release, The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) received information from an international source that an individual by the name of Randall Keith Allen was possessing/distributing numerous child pornography files. That tip started an investigation and on May 4, 2021, detectives seized digital devices from Allen's residence. On May 11, 2021, warrants for Allen’s arrest were obtained for ten counts of Felony Second Degree Exploitation of a Minor. This ends the Contactless Road Test program that had been required for 15-17-year-old drivers seeking their Level 3 Full Provisional license and a select group of other drivers who could not qualify for a road test waiver.All drivers who already had been scheduled for a Contactless Road Test should keep that appointment but be aware they will instead be taking a road test in regular traffic conditions, instead of the parking lots where Contactless Road Tests were conducted.Other 15-17-year-old drivers who have had their Level 2 Limited License for at least six months can schedule an appointment at ...

ASHEBORO NC - On April 29th, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Highway Criminal Interdiction Team says they pulled over a vehicle on I-74 near Archdale. When officers searched the vehicle they say they located cocaine.Two individuals were arrested and transported to Randolph County Jail where the magistrate found probable cause for charges. Cierra Storm White was charged with Felony Possession of Cocaine and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana up to ½ oz. She received a $10,000 unsecured bond with a first appearance set for May 24, 2021, in Randolph District Court. Morgan Lacey Wilkinson was charged with Felony Possession of Cocaine. On April 29th, 2021, at around 3:30 PM, first responders were called to a home on Miles Moffitt Rd. in Asheboro. Radio traffic from Randolph county 911 reported a three-year-old had been struck by a vehicle. Information later released by the Randolph County Sherriff's Office said the child was accidentally injured when an "inexperienced individual was moving a vehicle in the yard and the vehicle made contact with the child before eventually came to a stop after hitting the house causing structural damage." ASHEBORO NC - A woman is recovering from surgery after being shot by her husband in the parking lot of an Asheboro apartment complex.  Barry Lynn Baxter Jr According to information released by the Asheboro Police Department, on Wednesday, April 28th, 2021, officers with the Asheboro Police Department were dispatched to Ashewood Circle in reference to a report of a victim with an accidental gunshot wound. Officers found 55-year-old Deneene Lynn Baxter suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers rendered first aid at the scene and the victim was transported to a hospital in Greensboro where she underwent surgery and is recovering.  During the investigation, it was determined that the victim was shot by her husband, Barry Lynn Baxter, Jr., age 40. ASHEBORO NC - The N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has finalized the autopsy report for a four-month-old killed in Randolph County back in November of 2019. On November 9th, 2019 the Guil-Rand Fire Department, Randolph County EMS, and Archdale officers responded to a home in Archdale where they found four-month-old Nevaeh Faith Johnson unresponsive on a mattress. Nevaeh was transported to High Point Regional and then was transferred to Brenner Children’s Hospital where she was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit. Nevaeh would later be pronounced dead on November 12th, 2019. An autopsy was conducted on Nov. 14th, 2019. ASHEBORO NC - A murder suspect is in custody leading police on a high-speed chase through Randolph County overnight. According to a press release by the Asheboro Police Department, on Sunday, March 25, 2021, at 2:09 AM, officers were dispatched to 340 Brookside Drive in Asheboro for a call about an unknown medical situation. When officers arrived they discovered 55-year-old Sherrie Shaw deceased in the residence. Investigators with Asheboro Police Dept began a homicide investigation.  Relatively quickly Investigators were able to determine a possible suspect and vehicle.
