ASHEBORO N.C. - Overnight a winter weather system dropped 1-2.5 inches of snow across Randolph County and wreaked havoc on roadways. The snow combined with already wet roads and overnight lows that dipped down below 10 degrees created treacherous driving conditions. In Moore county the Sandhills Sentinel reported several vehicles overturned including a NCDOT snow plow and a FEDEX delivery van. Here in Randolph County impacts have been minimal. Percriptitation was almost all snow with very little in the way of sleet or freezing rain. Unlike the last snow storm this one left several inches of alight powdery snow perfect for building a snowman . Crews were clearing roads as soon as snowfall stopped at 4am. ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) - Two people had to be airlifted from Randolph Hospital overnight following a Shooting on Cedar Falls Rd in Asheboro. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department, last night at around 11:40pm officers from the Asheboro Police Department were dispatched to 1012 Cedar Falls Road in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived they located a male victim who was suffering from a gunshot wound in a small building behind the residence. The male who police identified as 29-year-old Randy Christopher Brower of Kernersville was taken to Randolph Hospital by Randolph County EMS. ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect has been arrested and charged with Felony Second Degree Murder in connection with a fatal shooting in Randleman on Jan 8th. Tonight the Randolph County Sheriff's Office announced in a press release that they arrested 19-year-old Alexandre Osorio Carbajal (who also goes by the alias Alexander Hernandez). They say Carbajal arrose as a suspect as they investigated the January 8th shooting in Randleman that killed 20-year-old Daniel Lopez Vences. ASHEBORO N.C. - Emergency crews responded to the Ramseur Quik Chek after getting calls that part of the roof over the diesel pumps had collapsed Sunday. On Sunday evening just before 6pm, emergency crews with the Ramseur Fire Department along with Ash-Rand Rescue were called to a roof collapse at the Ramseur Quik Chek. According to officials from the Ramseur Fire Department they arrived to find that a small portion of the awning was over the diesel pumps had collapse, resulting in minimal damage. The business was closed at the time and no injuries were reported. Crews said they did not see any indications of any disrepair or weakness to the awning and said the collapse may have been due to the weight of the ice and water.

According to the Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office, on Sunday at 11:35AM crews from Staley, Liberty and Franklinville Fire Departments responded to a call for a residential structure fire on White Lake Dr. When firefighters arrived they found a working fire at a single story home. At the time of the fire there were 7 adults in the home. All occupants were able to exit the structure. ASHEBORO N.C. - Over the last 48 hours, as the start of the winter storm gets closer, meteorologist have been watching their forecast models closely. Now, just hours before snow and sleet are set to start, new forecasts are changing the amount of snow and ice we can expect, with warnings of widespread power outages and treacherous travel conditions. WINTER STORM WARNING At 3am this morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh upgraded the Winter Storm Watch for our area to a Winter Storm Warning, starting at midnight tonight. Meteorologist are calling for heavy mixed precipitation (snow, sleet, & freezing rain) with total snow accumulations of up to 3 inches and ice accumulations of two tenths to three tenths of an inch, with winds gusts as high as 40 mph.
