ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man was arrested on warrants from both the Randolph County Sheriffs Office and the Asheboro Police Department for alleged sex crimes involving a child. On December 22, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report of a sexual offense allegedly committed by Luis Enrique Torres. That investigation led Detectives from the Sheriff's Office's Criminal Investigations Division to seek charges for two counts of Felony Indecent Liberties with aChild, Felony Statutory Sex Offense with a Child, and Misdemeanor Harassing Phone Calls. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department, on Saturday, March 19th, 2022, at approximately 10:58 PM, officers responded to Randolph Health in reference to a gunshot victim. When officers arrived they discovered that a 17 year-old juvenile had been shot in the head at a location on Millikan Avenue in Asheboro. The victim was subsequently airlifted to another medical facility. ASHEBORO N.C. - Asheboro Cultural & Recreation Services has announced a date for this year's Easter Eggstravaganza. The annual Easter Eggstravaganza is a free family friendly event hosted by the City of Asheboro's Cultural & Recreation Services. Children ages 1-10 can participate to find eggs with a special appearance from the Easter Bunny and goody bags for everyone. This year the event is scheduled for Saturday, April 9th from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at Bicentennial Park in downtown Asheboro. The event will be held rain or shine. Please note that parents are asked to remain outside of the egg hunt area while children are collecting the eggs. (ACME NEWS) - Police are investigating how a local man who had been reported missing ended up deceased in a wooded area near an Asheboro apartment complex yesterday. On March 9th, 2022, around noon, patrol officers with the Asheboro Police Department were called to the 700 block of Breeze Hill Road, after getting a call about a missing person last seen in the area the day before. In a press release the Asheboro Police Department says that early information gathered at the scene led to detectives with the department's Criminal Investigations Division being called to lead the investigation as well as for additional personnel being requested to conduct a search of the area. ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman was arrested after police say she set 5 separate fires in the Asheboro area that all occurred on the same day and in the same area. Police began investigating on March 3rd after fire crews and the Fire Marshal's Office called the Randolph County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Division to the scene of a fire on Cedar Grove Drive Extension in Asheboro. Fire crews reported five separate and distinct fires with one spreading to a vacant outbuilding, a second fire ignited three vehicles and the three other fires burned wooded areas. On March 1st 2022, just before midnight an officer with the Asheboro Police Department responded to the Madison Heights apartments on N Fayetteville Street after getting a call about a burglary in progress. According to a police report the arriving officer spoke with a resident at the apartments who had heard multiple car alarms going off and saw an unidentified male inside of his vehicle. Fire crews from several departments responded to an out of control fire on Pine Lakes Dr that threatened two homes. ASHEBORO N.C. - Despite warnings from the North Carolina Forest Service of a High fire danger yesterday, fire crews across the county responded to at least six out of control fires. Yesterday the North Carolina Forest Service warned of an increased fire danger resulting from warm and dry conditions with low humidity and winds of 10 to 15 mph that were gusting as high as 20 and 25 mph. Their warning said that outdoor burning was highly discouraged, but did not go as far as banning outdoor burning. (CITY OF ASHEBORO)- The Asheboro Cultural and Recreation Services Department is providing Blended Learning American Red Cross Lifeguard Training throughout the spring, in preparation for the summer. The cost of the classes are $225.00. Participants must meet and pass all prerequisites set by the American Red Cross. These include being a minimum age of 15, and being able to complete a 300 meter swim, the retrieval and return of a 10 pound object from an 8 foot depth, and a 2 minute tread without the use of hands. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Asheboro Police Department VICE/ Narcotics unit conducted a search warrant at the home of a man on house arrest in Asheboro where they say they found drugs and guns. On Feb 8th 2022, the VICE/Narcotics unit along with the Special Enforcement Team of the Asheboro Police Department executed a search warrant at a home on Lakeview Rd. Police had obtained a search warrant for the home as well as for Jamie Edward York and Laura Elizabeth Dawson. Police say when executing a search warrant they located 3 firearms, including 2 handguns,one of which was determined to be stolen, and a sawed off shotgun. (ACME NEWS)- Two Deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff's office had to be taken to the hospital after they were both struck by a vehicle while crossing the road in Asheboro. According to Randolph County 911, at 12:31 p.m. a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office reported over the radio that her and another deputy had been struck by a vehicle in front of Glaze King Donuts on Albemarle Road.
