ASHEBORO N.C. - Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Raleigh have issued a hazardous weather outlook warning of possible severe thunderstorms, strong winds, and localized flooding for Wednesday. Almost all of central North Carolina including the Triad was placed under a level 2 "slight risk" by the Storm Prediction Center. Meteorologist say Wednesday afternoon, likely around 3 pm, is when they expect to see the greatest threat of severe weather. (Scott Pelkey / Acme News) ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) - Detectives and CSI are on the scene of a shooting where three people were injured this afternoon. A press release from the Asheboro Police Department says at around 4:30 pm, patrol officers were dispatched to the area of Coleridge Road near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in reference to a shooting. Arriving officers found 3 victims, a 19 year old male and two juveniles who had all been shot. (Scott Pelkey / Acme News) All individuals were transported to a local medical facility. On March 18th 2022, Officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to Glenwood Rd in reference to a welfare check on a male subject. Officers spoke with the homeowner who said there was a male subject standing by the creek on his property. According to a police report the homeowner told police he had asked the subject multiple times to leave the property and that the subject was attempting to start a fire in a bird bath. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man was arrested on warrants from both the Randolph County Sheriffs Office and the Asheboro Police Department for alleged sex crimes involving a child. On December 22, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report of a sexual offense allegedly committed by Luis Enrique Torres. That investigation led Detectives from the Sheriff's Office's Criminal Investigations Division to seek charges for two counts of Felony Indecent Liberties with aChild, Felony Statutory Sex Offense with a Child, and Misdemeanor Harassing Phone Calls. The Asheboro Police Department had also obtained warrants for Torres for Felony Indecent Liberties with a Child and Felony Statutory Sex Offense with a Child. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department, on Saturday, March 19th, 2022, at approximately 10:58 PM, officers responded to Randolph Health in reference to a gunshot victim. The annual Easter Eggstravaganza is a free family friendly event hosted by the City of Asheboro's Cultural & Recreation Services. Children ages 1-10 can participate to find eggs with a special appearance from the Easter Bunny and goody bags for everyone. (ACME NEWS) - Police are investigating how a local man who had been reported missing ended up deceased in a wooded area near an Asheboro apartment complex yesterday. On March 9th, 2022, around noon, patrol officers with the Asheboro Police Department were called to the 700 block of Breeze Hill Road, after getting a call about a missing person last seen in the area the day before. ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman was arrested after police say she set 5 separate fires in the Asheboro area that all occurred on the same day and in the same area. Police began investigating on March 3rd after fire crews and the Fire Marshal's Office called the Randolph County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Division to the scene of a fire on Cedar Grove Drive Extension in Asheboro. Fire crews reported five separate and distinct fires with one spreading to a vacant outbuilding, a second fire ignited three vehicles and the three other fires burned wooded areas. On March 1st 2022, just before midnight an officer with the Asheboro Police Department responded to the Madison Heights apartments on N Fayetteville Street after getting a call about a burglary in progress. According to a police report the arriving officer spoke with a resident at the apartments who had heard multiple car alarms going off and saw an unidentified male inside of his vehicle. Fire crews from several departments responded to an out of control fire on Pine Lakes Dr that threatened two homes. ASHEBORO N.C. - Despite warnings from the North Carolina Forest Service of a High fire danger yesterday, fire crews across the county responded to at least six out of control fires. Yesterday the North Carolina Forest Service warned of an increased fire danger resulting from warm and dry conditions with low humidity and winds of 10 to 15 mph that were gusting as high as 20 and 25 mph. Their warning said that outdoor burning was highly discouraged, but did not go as far as banning outdoor burning.
